This win bumped us up 11 spots in Kenpom, for those wondering.
Depaul isn't very good, but the team did exactly what they needed to do against a team that doesn't have the size to go toe-to-toe with the Cats. Audige making shots is a big difference maker for the team. Was surprised that Beran didn't have a good game, but good to see the Cats can win while not firing on all cylinders.

DePaul trailed at Loyola by almost the same score at halftime as they trailed us and then came back and won by eight, They have some shooters on that team who got very hot vs., the Ramblers (hitting several NBA 3s) but we never let them get comfortable today. If we can stay healthy, we can be competitive in the BIG this year (Never would have thought that after the Pitt debacle) . Oh, and by the way, for the doubters, Collins says Audige was battling a hip injury for most of last year.

I’d love to think what we would do if we did fire on all cylinders.

After seeing two minutes of Hunger making the catch and finishing, closing on the baseline, setting strong screens, and boxing out, I’ve got no need to see Verhoeven, except in the case of foul trouble. He is what he is. Let’s see if we underestimated Hunger like we did Pardon (and Nicholson).

My opinion is unchanged after Hunger’s too-aggressive attempt to cut off the entry pass.
Agreed. Hunger moves very fluidly for a big guy, and he can shoot. I bet we see more of him as the season progresses.

I thought I heard the announcers say Depaul was several (3?) players down. Do we know how important they are?

DePaul had no inside presence. Take all positives of the Big men with that in mind. NU dominated inside as they should. NU but 39 against an inferior opponent. It was nice to put them away.

Hungar can play he just has to get used to the speed of the game at the college level.

Also, Lowry is not going to let him in the floor if he does not get the defense.

So are you thinking the defense is essentially being run by assistant coach Chris Lowery?

Interesting parallels of that situation to the fooball program, with Fitzgerald leaning heavily on his defensive coordinator (Hankwitz).

I think it is quite possible that Lowery is helping Collins significantly. Lowery put in a lot of time with Bruce Weber, who is no recruiting dynamo but certainly knows the game.
