Bardo is no Hummel, but I sure appreciate “Was that a reverse 360? That’s a lot of confidence.”

Never change, Boo.

If there were ever a time to cash in a Williams 3, that would have been the one. Great look, wide open.

NU down 2 with 1:30 left.

Buie just frustrates like hell. He messed up on 3 crucial possessions so far, 2 forced shots and an offensive foul. Let's not fold down the stretch again.

Why Collins never put Nicholson back in is beyond me. He frustrated the heck out of Kofi. Boo also played out of control the last few minutes and it killed us too.

When Buie messed up those three straight possessions down the stretch, that basically cost us the game. Of course Nance played lights out but missed an important shot at the end. These guys just don't have it, we've seen it too often.

I know I’m prejudiced. I know I’m frustrated. But it really ticks me off when Bardo is assigned to our game with the Illini.

Stupid iso offense when we are ahead down the stretch especially when Nance was hot. Pure idiocy of playing and coaching. Keep running your offense. Not that hard.

He had 3 fouls in 90 seconds, so we probably lost about 2 minutes of frustration.

Totally agree. They gotta take a long look at how they decided to defend Cockburn down the stretch. He got multiple point blank shots.

I wonder what the Collin’s strategy would look like with good players. I can only assume it looks great on the U.S. Olympic team. But as he does not recruit Olympians to NU, all we see is yet another lead guard iso that ends in forced shots and repeated losses.

That was an 8-0 run in 3:30 until Boo’s meaningless three.

During that stretch, we got missed threes from Williams and Greer, who have made a total of 12 threes this season. Oh well.

Should've run through Nance a lot more down the stretch and less wasting of the shot clock each trip down.

Down 3 with 50 seconds left, Berry, who was 2-3 from three (at that time, before missing a desperation 3 with 5 seconds left) was on the bench! Why?

Williams played really well today but there’s a reason he’s wide open for a 3 — Illinois was very happy to let him take it.

I also thought Greer gave us good minutes but when we need to score late how is Berry not out there?

That was such a gutsy defensive effort today, a shame that poor offense sunk us again. When Boo is erratic it just kills us.

That's why we lost so many games last year and this year. When your lead guard fails to deliver down the stretch, those close games are lost.

Ok so he had two more to give. Let him create a bit of chaos for the entire 5
Agreed. You're also giving Cockburn another look with Nicholson. While Williams played hard, he was giving up 5 or 6 inches in height.

Call me a baboon, but I’m kinda excited about Nicholson. He has some offensive skills, and I think he has an edge this team sorely lacks. He will get better about fouls, but what we could do a lot worse than a guy who gives us 10-15 minutes of hard-nosed interior play off the bench.

The MN love fest has now officially reached Jordan Ash level proportions.

I like that the kid appears to be a hard worker and he’ll be able to provide something next year. However, he had zero chance against Kofi today. Zero. 3 fouls in 2 minutes and contributed to putting us into the bonus foul situation very early in the half. Play the kid in the first half not in the second half when you know the zebra’s will ring him up on nearly every possession. He did what he could, but the 6’7 guy was our best defender on Kofi.

You mean a lanky freshman had little chance defending a 7’ 280 pound behemoth who is in third season and will play in the NBA?

MN has shown some offensive awareness. He will learn to be a better defender IF he continues to get minutes.

No one on these forums has ever given me a single harsh word. Harsh sentences, yes. But never a harsh word.

Thats exactly why some of us were so unhappy that Collins got Nicholson so little experience before throwing him to the wolves against Edey and Cockburn. Unfortunately, Collins did exactly what I was afraid he would do. To the detriment of the team.

With a little coaching and playing time Nicholson will be a damned good player.

The Jordan Ash comparison is so weak, I won't even comment. You really need to re-think that one.

Sorry PWB, I really am trying hard not to flame, but Thinking that MN getting 5-10 minutes against against SE North Dakota State earlier in the year would have somehow groomed him to be even slightly effective against that monster is weak. No way, no how.

I don’t disagree with you that he has potential to be a contributor, but it takes time with big men. MN just isn’t Kofi or Edny that are basically rolling onto campus and are impact guys. Please don’t interpret this a MN hate. It isn’t. It is just impossible IMO to make any reasonable argument that he was going to make a difference today. 3 fouls in 2 minutes! It was a disaster. It’s as predictable as NU losing by 5 or less.

The Jordan Ash crush was the work of one eccentric poster who, at times, was the proverbial blind squirrel. But Ash was no nut, and we all saw that.

I’m nowhere near ready to write off Nicholson after 19 games. He has some skills.

Proud of what Greer has become with hard work, but he’d be pretty low on my list of the guys I want to take a shot at that stage of the game
Agreed. I'd rather have junkyard dog Roper in there with the potential to snag an offensive rebound after a late game miss and play great defense too.

We're expecting a sellout crowd in Evanston today, and I imagine it will be mostly Orange.

Kofi will play for Illinois but Curbelo is still out with COVID. He's had a tough year off the court -- he had a concussion earlier this season.

It will be interesting to see how NU plays Kofi. Will they play Nance, run a lot of five-out and try to get the big fella away from the basket, or will they go with more Young and try to attack him in the post? Either way, I expect Illinois to shoot a lot of threes today. Northwestern ranks 14th in the B1G in three-point percentage defense.

Looked like the crowd included a thousand or so ill. fans You could hardly see them on TV.
