Game thread for NU vs. OSU

I can’t say I’m very optimistic about this one. We’ll see how NU comes out today. They’re a veteran team; hopefully, they’ll be able to put that Penn State loss behind them (and MSU too) and come out ready to play ball.

The Bucks haven’t been playing they well themselves, coming off of a 16-point loss to Indiana, and they needed OT to beat Nebraska.

We have had issues with over helping. But this is ridiculous. Who over helps on the best players on the other side? Nance and Young, terrible.

Was a joint production of Nance and Young. I don’t get Liddell being hot and putting Young on him. Puzzling.

I yearn for a day when one guy guards one guy, and he makes it a point to have his guy score the least points. Then there would be defensive accountability. I know that’s unrealistic to some extent, but this (lack of) switching and help defense is absurd.

The athleticism gap between NU and top conference opponents is on full display tonight. Particularly with Young, Berry and Williams all getting stuffed at the rim

I do feel like they just don’t understand the defensive principles at times. I know Collins is accountable, but the players are just not executing what he is coaching them to do. With last game’s second half, and this first half, we have given up 96 points.

Ryan Young has negative awareness. People actually thing playing him more is a solution? Goes up soft and can’t pass out of the post. Not a good combo for a big.

Ohio State is killing is on blocked shots close to the bucket and on fast breaks. Liddell just hit a 3 as the shot clock expired- 21 pts at the half We should be closer than 12 at the half but Liddell has been dominant for the Buckeyes.

I know purple white boy thanks young is the best player on the team but he's been very bad the last couple games including today. We are totally outclassed in this game. And it doesn't help that the reffing is totally one-sided. Anyone who thinks we have postseason aspirations is wildly mistaken at this point

I don’t want to get into debates in a game thread on things like who’s fault it is. Not the thread for that!

In this half, more than in any other time this season, our problem was defense. Folks can talk all they want about blocks, we did not have a bad offensive half.

I give the team credit for not folding. I may be proven wrong in the second half, but the experience and chemistry on this team is better than most we’ve had.

39 pts in a half is decent to good offensively. Giving up 51 is pathetic.

I have a hard time believing there aren’t quite a few coaches who could do more with the talent on hand than CC does.

Folks you can talk all you want about Young. His turnovers were awful. But generalizing on one half of ball is pretty weak. 50% from the field and 5 boards anyway.

And magically not mentioning the alternative is a scoreless and reboundless Beran is really only being able to focus on a goofy looking tall kid’s mistakes. Hey we could sit them both down and pray every rebound magically ends up in our hands

I’m a huge Ty Berry fan. He’s put a ton out even in our losses. He needs to have more minutes going forward. He’s an outstanding defender and can score.

It would have helped if he actually went up with the correct hand.

All I have said is that Young, Berry and Nance are our three best players and that Young should play more than Beran.

He did not play great, but 2 turnovers were mainly the fault of his teammates.
Greer cut down the lane and Young went to pass to him, but Greer just stopped.
The other one, he got an offensive rebound on the baseline, was doubled by 2 OSU guys and our players stood and watched, forcing Young to try to dribble out. Ridiculous - somebody stole the ball.
One putback (on a Buie miss) looked like it hit the backboard, then Liddell swept it away - i.e. goaltending.

really? Name them. Just the ones who would craze coaching NU.
