So much effort to get back into the game only to get crushed at the buzzer. This and the Butler game.

That squad showed us a lot of gumption. Would have been better to win but prior editions would have curled up into the fetal position down 17.

There was a kid who played at SPAC around circa 2000 who would take shots from out there during pickup games, and he'd make about half of them. He had a super-quick release so he'd take it if you gave him any room at all. Beyond NBA-range.

If some kid at SPAC will make those open shots, don't give a Division I Iowa player that kind of space when you know their only prayer is to catch-and-shoot.

Wow. Left too many points on the floor.
I mean, sure, we had chanced to score some more, but did Iowa really deserve to win? They were gifted several free throws on ticky tack fouls that weren’t called for 35 minutes and then proceeded to miss most of those free throws.

We played well enough to win and deserved the win. Iowa totally botched the last six seconds and were bailed out by a great individual play/shot.

All that matters is who wins the game, not who deserves it. But I certainly don’t think Iowa deserved it any more than we did. They had several of their own issues throughout that second half and down the stretch.

They haven't beaten anyone of consequence and lost all three games they played against quad one type teams. Long way to go to get where they're trying to get to. Certainly possible.
They’ve lost 3 games by 8 points total. This one stinks but this is not a bad team.

I knew a guy named Artur who was doing that from 1999-2002 at SPAC. Now everyone can do it. But it especially helps when you shove the defender away and create separation.

Ty played it right. No sense in drawing a foul on the follow through. Sometimes great players make great plays.

Boys played a great game. Came back from being down 17 points in an away game. Iowa couldn’t miss in the fist half but the team hung in there. There is a lot to like about this game even though we lost. Ty finally found his shot.

You're in your feelings. You can do it in under .5, and he did. The ball was long gone by the time the buzzer sounded. Clean shot.
A few years ago they determined a quick shooting motion is around 0.4.

Gotta disagree. Ty lost his guy. Bad guy to lose. It was gonna be Dix or Sandfort taking the shot.

I agree. But on the road against a well-coached team in the B1G you have to play almost flawless.

Berry's missed FT and 3 and-1s under basket by Hunger and Smith cut into a 5 pt lead the Cats should have been able to hold.

7-2. 1-0 in the B1G. Quad 1 road win, which holds its value better than gold bullion. That win would have been huge, especially down 17 in the first half.

Keep on Pounding the Rock, I guess.

Heartbreaking loss. Refs hosed us down the stretch with about 5 bad calls.
As Bardo said on the broadcast "Iowa is getting points by throwing themselves into Northwestern defenders."

On the very bright side... Hunger dominated Owen Freeman. Physically kicked his ***. Luke was probably +15 tonight.
Martinelli abused Sandfort in the paint - Sandfort being a future NBA draft choice, I thought that was notable.

We played bully ball on a soft Iowa team. Wow is Freeman soft for a guy his size.
Refs bailed Iowa out. No two ways about it.

Also noteworthy - Ty Berry looked great hitting 3's, playing great... but then we got to crunch time and he missed the open look that would have put us up 9 with 1:40 to go... then he turned the ball over with 52 seconds left, up by 3.... then he made 1 of 2 free throws that could have put us up 3 with 6 seconds left.

And then he let a guy get free to hit a 30 footer.

Yes, and a bad team would have lost to Eastern Illinois and Montana State. I say we're a medium team, maybe high medium.
Not great, not terrible. 3.6.
