Love the effort. MN's turnover, the way it happened, was the difference. Auburn is outstanding on D, and so are we. Gotta find more offense though.
Offense is going to be a problem, but if they play elite defense they will be in a lot of games. Auburn is legit, people freaking out need to take a deep breath. NU deserves credit for allowing 43 points. Just have to run better sets to get guys looks.

Yeah that was a brutal turnover. Just wish he hadn’t been in the game on that possession. He’s a real liability with his inability to shoot free throws, so if there’s any chance you can sub in Berry for that offensive possession, you do it. Maybe it wasn’t possible for that possession, but I hated not having Berry on floor most of last 5 minutes.
Maybe I’m blanking but didn’t berry inbound it? Thought it was Boo, beran, Audige MN and Berry out there.

Matt is the only one setting screens. It’s pretty embarrassing. Beran is 6-9 and doesn’t get closer than 15 feet from the basket until a shot goes up.

Last possession I thought he subbed berry for brooks, I would have taken out matt and gone with a curl to brooks, he was getting positive plays on that.

There were lot of missed opportunities, that block at the end of the first half was huge. Missed free throws, bo took about 7 bad sho t s early in the clock. But that's part of the game.

If you had told me before the game we’d win if we shot 8% from 3, I’d have taken it.

I guess we play some good defense, huh?

The final play was gross.
Credit to Auburn who denied it to Chase, who wanted the ball to the left. Instead, Beran came up and handed to Chase, who was isolated to the right of the key with Boo fading to the right corner.

Meanwhile, Beran, Berry, and MN just kind of stood to the left of the lane and watched.

Maybe there was a set play if Chase had gotten it on his initial cut; but after that failed, there was just nothing doing.

We shoot better than 8% from 3 and we win. So there's that.

All that hard work toward defeating a ranked team and it comes down to that final clusterfeck. Bruce Pearl has a beard worthy of frontage road van drivers and he gets a win. Makes we wanna puke.

Frontage Road Van Drivers! I saw them at the Rosemont Horizon back in ‘91. They opened for Neil Young.

Boo, beran and berry need to get jn the gym and work in their shot.

I know stats say Berry shoots 39 percent from 3. But he needs to be able to make shots against good teams. That's his position and role. Beran was playing well, not sure what happened against an athletic team.

Roper needs to get healthy so we can sit Boo.

Hunger needs to figure out the defense so he can get on the floor. He can hit that shot at the top of the key, but the game is too fast for him now.

The close losses might bother people, but I would rather that then getting blown out every game and not having a chance. This new coaching staff has the team playing high level defense. Yes I would like to win and for this team all plays are important. Every fan can pick one that would lead to the loss. Some people blame the coach other expect more from the players.

Have a great thanksgiving

A very good analysis of a had fought game. With Auburn using a 10 man rotation and pressing the who game we had a hard time getting into a half court offense. With us being forced into a seven man rotation it was difficult to get into an any kind of offense. I agree with everything you said. Our guys are really playing well.

I ran into an alum at LAX returning from Cancun who is closely connected to the program (played with McKinney). He wasn’t happy. He said all Northwestern players are too nice. He says Big Matt will be a load if he gets an attitude. He says too much dribbling and not enough passing. Says coaches call good plays but kids don’t execute.

Nothing terribly new. Just interesting to hear it from a guy close to the team.

I blame the referees! The foul against Nicholson should have been a charge, a no-call at the very least (unless he was inside the arc, couldn't see his feet, but it looked like he was fairly far away from the basket) Anyway, I thought that that was the call that determined the ballgame. That said, I sure wouldn't mind if CCC would go back to the Carril/Cormady playbook to get some ideas on how to run an offense. It wouldn't take much. I think we are very close to having a very good team.

The niceness thing is interesting. To me, Audige plays like he is about ready to fight everybody. Berry and Beran are both pretty happy to be playing. Buie normally not too emotional, which comes across as indifference sometimes. Verhoeven I'm not sure. Nicholson gets fired up, but yeah, I don't think he has been mad yet. Roper definitely got angry last year when things weren't going well.

We don't pass as well as most other teams. Most of that falls on the two guys who handle the ball, but are instructed to look for their shot. The constant ball screens are specifically to facilitate that approach. It is exactly what Collins wanted when he was playing. Set screens for me and let me shoot.

I think we can do a lot better scheme-wise, but I'm starting to feel that Buie is not really doing what they want him to do.
