Probably won’t go winless but it will be close. This is not a well constructed team. You have to be able to hit threes.

this team cannot rebound and no one can hit a clutch shot. Once again this is the early Boo years all over again

We led that game for probably 40 minutes and lost. I like Collins but his teams aside from a few notable and remarkable instances have never been closers. How many times have we "stole" one from a team that outplayed us vs.just plain choking it away? Too many times I'd say.

Total portal flop. One guy can’t play at all at this level. The other guy has massive weaknesses that more than negate his talent.
I would say TWO guys who can’t play at all at this level. You have accurately described the third. We now know why he rode the pine at two prior schools, despite the offensive skills.

You got to start West. Not going to turn season around, but it would help for next year and he might be our best guard right now.

we are getting destroyed at the 2. Whether it is Clayton, Gelo, Green or KJ, we get little offensively. Pick 2 and stick with them. AP is our best shooter, but he isn’t getting better on the defensive end. He is “in between” on every rotation. He has to play because we have nothing else on offense. Since we are so inept on offense, I would try Gelo and KJ with initial minutes. If they float around the 3 point line, I would plaster them to the pine. If they are aggressive and drive to the basket they stay in. If KJ is so far in Casa de Bow Wow, give Fish some run and see what happens.

We lost for a lot of reasons. Including rebounding. Defense. I'm sure we'll have a very different team next year as I expect numerous guys to transfer out of this current team. Seems like Collins just doesn't know how to pull this team together to get the maximum benefit.

Well, you do have to put 5 guys on the court unless you are Coach Norman Dale.

Other than Nick, most players have issues on at least one side of the ball. Some in both sides of the ball. I am not going to put it all on the 3 transfers. Every single returning player except Nick look worse than last year. A ton of this is mental IMO. They lack confidence in themselves and their teammates. You can see it at the end of the game where they go in the turtle on offense and pass up shots.

Good point. I wouldn't trust Mullins or Ciaravino to hit anything outside of 2 ft. These remind me of Kevin O'Neill's teams when we had Eschmeyer. Everyone else had severe limitations but we stayed in games because of Esch. Like one All American and a bunch of NAIA guys. It's absurd.

Time for Gragg to have another sit down with Collins?

Every game NU has lost this year save the Wisconsin game they have had a good chance to win. One thing after another has cost them a win. Wash rinse repeat. Bad defense can't rebound, tonight bad FT shooting and on and on and on. What can you say. This is just a bad team that can't close out in crunch time. CCC has a lot of work to do in the portal after this season. Feel bad for Mart but all we can say is wait till next year. What a shame.

Shoot is all he is asked to do. He played 1 most of last year and all of HS and he doesn’t get to do that..

Here’s one for ya: How many 3’s has Green shot in the last 5 minutes of any of our losses? One. And it was a make vs Michigan St. Every other loss he has watched the last 10 minutes (except butler) But yeah he can’t play at this level when all he has been allowed to do is stand in the corner while the other kids play offense, and has been sitting and watching down the stretch of every L 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Why is he playing at all? What does he do well? He takes a lot of shots. Hits few of them. Can’t rebound. Can’t play defense. What’s left? He can kinda dribble but to little purpose.
Lots of assists and not a lot of turnovers though

That inbounds pass really irks me and I lay the blame squarely on Collins. So you can't move as an inbounder? How about having a teammate out of bounds with you, then pass to him then back to a now inbounds Martinelli for 2 FT''s? Collins is getting outcoached guys.

On the plus side, I think West is gonna be really good
West and Singleton could both turn into really good players after more development. Kropp also. The freshman class could be very good in the future. Problem is a couple of them are getting major minutes and it takes awhile for them to embrace the culture that it seemed Collins had established. Which is toughness and doggedness.

On the other hand, it seems as of right now Collins whiffed on bringing transfers in that fit that culture. This team just doesn’t seem to have that swag previous teams did despite Martinelli. CCC knows the group is not tough enough.

TBH I don’t think the Reid issue is culture, I just think he’s like five inches too small for this league. He is physically out at he’d and gets torched off the dribble and has problem with a lot of defenders despite moving the ball around well.

This game is technically sold out but there are a lot of empty seats and the usually raucous Rutgers fans are very defeated at the moment.

So much for the KJ sighting.
I have to remember you live out here too. We should have a meetup for an RU or other game out East - @CatManTrue / @SDakaGordie / @TheC...haven't met @NUcats92 yet either.

I feel better about him than Reid. Someone out there has to be able to hit an outside shot. We’re getting all this efficiency from Mart but the math doesn’t add up without outside shooting.

Reid is an absolute baby. Bench his bum *** and let Jake West play the majority of the minutes.

Unfortunately our next football game versus RU is in Evanston.

But, I agree, it would be great to have a mini-purple party near NYC soon. Before he became the Giants’s interim HC, Kafka was a regular at his family’s tailgate in the Meadowlands and very receptive to Northwestern brethren who recognized him. So, there are some friendly local spots.

Any other big games coming up?

The 2016 Pinstripe Bowl was a blast. If we can go 6-6 or 7-5 again then I hope we have another Yankee Stadium bowl.
