Not giving that one back!!

So huge to come away with this given the stretch we have ahead.

Was traveling today, so had to catch up to real time- caught up right around when we were up 12. Silly me thought- awesome, should have a relaxing win the rest of the way! Phew!!!

Cats escape playing in a funky venue.
Desperation shot by SC at the end hits the ceiling. Why not play the game in a real arena?

Man that was crazy 🤪. Lots of mistakes down the stretch but Nick was the closer with that bucket then a FANTASTIC PASS to Paige who took care of it from there. GREAT WIN! That South Carolina team is legit.

Arrentin Paige has really filled the bill at center. We were all wondering who would take over for Big Matt and AP has surpassed expectations. Much more athletic and a legit scoring threat.
The Cats found a way to win and that's always good. NM with another 20 point plus game and Mr. Green off the bench with instant offense. Have to close the game out better and must improve our rebounding. Way too many second chance points for our opponents.
What a weekend for our sports teams. After yesterday's win by our football team that wasn't settled until time ran out by that missed FG the double OT win by our National Championship FH team and the winning shot by Paige with 0.8 seconds left on the clock there have been some exciting finishes this weekend. And they have all gone the CATS way. Just the way it should be.

Just said exactly the same thing to my wife, but she seemed a bit disinterested

Are we intentionally not defending the 3? I don’t see how we could be worse at
We were defending it but they were were getting so many second and third shots that it is hard to recover on all of them. Stats only show them having 11 O RBs but it sure seemed like a lot more

Page had 6 assists to go along with everything else. Hard to say he is a center as he plays more like a 3/4

Probably his D is a little weak
He actually does ok, gave up the baseline on a drive but sometimes it seems like that's ok with the doubleteaming we do. He doesn't have any glaring weaknesses and grabbed a rebound and dished an assist while he was out there hitting everything. He'll continue to grow and there will be minutes for him to be sure.

Nice win despite the problems down the stretch. This will be a fun team to watch. The deepest team in many years. Most of them are playing with each other for the first time. Six games into the season I am encouraged. Page and Reid add a lot and the freshmen are receiving important minutes. Lots of assists shows unselfish play. The team is athletic and they do a good job of moving the ball up court quickly.

Which is why I said a little weak and not bad. You can give a guy who is a little weak minutes, especially if his O is great but hard if the D is bad

There was one set where they shot several 3s and the rebound kept going to the right corner. SC kept on getting the rebound until finally the damn ball just went out of bounds on its own.

Some of the misses were so bad, you'd never position yourself for a rebound there.

True but It has been a pattern in the last three games especially that we have been getting killed by other teams in Offensive Rebounds so it is hard to give credit. DePaul Offensive Rebounds 16-6, Virginia 21 -6 and South Carolina 13-5. That is getting killed. Just cannot give that many second chances

Not many traditional centers these days. Page is awesome.
Agreed. He guards the other team’s biggest guy, is really effective in pick and roll and is our best rim protector. And he can post up from time to time. He’s our center. I’m not sure what traditional center means any more. That ship sailed last century. Is a traditional center someone who only posts up on offense?

A lot of those rebounds seemed to be 90 degrees and long

I saw some of this in the game, but made it a point to watch more carefully on the highlight tapes and it just seems like we don't make an active attempt to box out. Gelo seems to do it, but the others don't get themselves in position. Plus, while part of boxing out is getting position on your man, the other part is backing them out away from the basket. We have a number of rebounds where we appear to have position, but the opponent jumps over us and grabs the ball because we are still standing right under the basket. Other than Page (who never seems to box out), our guys are not blessed with the greatest leaping ability and so we often get jumped over. I saw this happen to Nick numerous times. He needs to be more physical in boxing out.

Finally, we need to have five guys go for defensive rebounds. Our guards do not seem to get involved in rebounding. Other than Gelo (who is more of a small forward) all of our guards average less than 2 rebounds per game. I compare that to a team like UConn (just to pick one high level team) where their guards average 3.5 and 5 rebounds per game. Their point guard had a triple double last night because he was busy chasing down 10 rebounds in the game! As another relevant example, Virginia's main guards are averaging 2.7, 3.3, 4.2 and 5 rebounds per game.

Watching Dines play in Maui now, and it’s pretty obvious we are much better off with Page. Dines can block a few shots, but he’s a non-factor on offense. He’s not even close to Big Matt, who could move well for a guy his size.

The shot in question was almost the length of the court and had no chance of going in. I thought the venue was fun, and if my wife and I had been there we could have stayed in a beautiful resort hotel and played golf in addition to going to both games

Boxing out is job one. It is the hard and dirty work that needs to be done for a team to be successful. Getting the rebound is 2. Unfortunately many on the team feel they can skip #1 and go straight to 2. Nicholson did that work. Did not show in his stats as others often got the rebounds that he made possible

On O no but on D.. There is no long outlet other than if we are doing it. But here we are talking about minimizing the other teams O rebounds which is when we are on D
Right.... this.
