Won't be able to follow this one too closely today, but thought I'd get the thread started anyway. First pitch is at noon. Evan White is still out. Here's the lineup:

This lineup frustrates me. I want to complain that we're playing both Heyer (.143) and Becker (0.00), but at the same time... who do you replace them with? McNeill (.167) or Squires (.182)? Not all that much better.
I would personally, which means nothing, actually move Carson and Mahan. Carson is hitting very well as is Reks. Let them kind of feed off of one another.

Reks draws a walk on four straight, but Mahan grounded into a 4-6-3 double play. Pompey then drew a full count walk. I believe Cottam then grounded, but I am not sure where to.
Hjelle got a couple quick outs, but three singles in a row, two infield, have the Hawks set up nicely here in the top of the 2nd.
Ouch... Belanger comes to the mound to talk to Hjelle and he follows up the mound visit by giving up a grand slam. [sick]
5-4 now. Bases loaded with nobody out. Marshall just walked in a run. Not entirely sure what is going on this inning.
New pitcher for St. Joes. Heady drives one up the middle for a 2 RBI single to give UK the lead 6-5!!
Now the ukathletics.com radio feed seems to have gone on radio silence. Not sure what is going on.
Okay, it is back. Reks got on base. Not sure what happened to get him on... maybe a walk. Mahan now up.
Mahan strikes out on three pitches. He is really struggling. Pompey then walks on a full count to put UK up 7-5 with 1 out.
UK scored again, but I am not sure how. The audio feed is now playing music. 9-5 UK going to the top of the 5th according to this:
Hjelle allows a single, double and a 3run HR to open the 5th. Now 9-8 UK no outs. Get his lanky azz out of there !
Eww.... I believe all of those are earned. This is going to be a rough year for our pitching staff.
Why is the name of Hendo did Ming leave Hjelle in so long ? He clearly should have had his bullpen up going to be ready after the 1st batter got on. Pop now in, look for more St. Joes runs !
One of my biggest pet peeves in regards to baseball is when you give runs the inning (or half) after getting runs. The pitcher has a chance to really boost momentum and instead we too often seem to let teams back into the game by giving up runs right after we get them.
Well, UK has the lead again with the bases loaded after Heyer walks. This has been a crazy freaking game.
UK up now 13-9, come on Ming, do not let our pitcher get in trouble again, be ready to go to Salow if needed. Following on the ODU athletics site ...Live stats.
Not sure if I want Salow to pitch today or if I want him to take over a starting spot on one of the next two days. If we don't shore up at least one starting role then we're going to be in some big trouble.
Heady walked, Reks singled and Mahan singled to score Heady to put UK up 14-9. Still no outs in the bottom of the 7th. Some good hitting today, got to give the guys that.
If we can get Pompey to hit the ball we'd be doing pretty well. Double steal by UK, always nice to see. Mingione really loves to do that.
Carson tried to steal home, I presume on a passed ball or wild pitch. Like the aggression though.
3 more runs in, now 16-9 Cats. Funny looking at stats Hjelle threw 89 pitches, 67 were strikes. Wow !
Hahaha well UK ends up winning this one 16-9. I think Machamer came in for the 9th inning, but I can't be sure because I am trying not to listen to the game too loud here at work. First win of the season was an interesting one that didn't really put a whole lot of problems to rest, but I am glad to see most of our guys turn it around at the plate. Still have to get Pompey and Heyer going, but I think Becker had 2 hits today as did Mahan, so that is a good sign. Carson continues to be red hot at the 5 spot and hit a triple today. Heady at the bottom continues to do extremely well, and Reks just keeps on being Reks. So, overall I am not mad at it, but we do need to shore down some pitching.

Well, it has only been a week, so I am not that concerned over it. The great thing is that he can take batting practice and so he is actually seeing pitches and traveling with the team and things like that, so he shouldn't miss too much of a beat.
