Need to back up the Duke win with a win tonight. No time for a let down coming off of a big win/game against Duke. This is one my biggest concerns going into this one.

Cards were struggling to put the ball in the basket for the first 22 minutes of this one, but we're absolutely on fire now.

The Duke hangover. That's all I can think of while watching this nonsense. The Cards have played for about 8 minutes total tonight. Mainly garbage basketball.

I guess I’ve jinxed us. We’ve missed our last four shots during this Tech run.... Now five straight missed shots.

Glad that garbage game is over. I thought there would be a letdown after that huge win at Duke, and I was right. Still, it's nice to win these type of games. That shows toughness to win even when you're not mentally in it from the start.

Go CARDS!!

I really thought we’d come out with energy and confidence and stomp GaTech. Instead we were lethargic on defense and let Tech get confidence. Until this team can get a big dog mentality we can lose on almost any night despite our superior talent.

Hate to say it but this type of approach leads to early exits in 1 loss and done tournaments. Right now this team plays according to the talent opposing them. Not a good habit to be in.

I was about to post something like this because it’s what worries me.

I just don’t see the urgency to close a game. Eventually we will get a game where a guy like Tre Jones won’t take selfish shots to shoot their team out of the game or a limited Ga Tech team runs out of gas at the end.

DJ has added a new element of being able to create scoring off the dribble. But we still lack a ball handler that can run sets in the half court. When the games get tight, it slows down and we just can’t find he right shot late.

BUTTTTTT, our defense is still finding way to create points in transition and get physical when needed. Always love to see that in a team.

Thats who they want to be.
They have more than enough overall talent to be the number 1,one seed, yet they play like an 8,9 seed.
This is a Sweet Sixteen team until they prove otherwise.
Pathetic, but you are who you are.
Im just going to enjoy it.

A good indicator of PG play is the assist to turnover ratio. A ratio of 2.0 seems to be the measure of a true PG. Here are our numbers:
Kimble - 2.14 ranks #61 overall
Perry - 1.9 ranks #114
McMahon - 1.6

Funny that actually Sutton has the best ratio on the team at 2.2 but is not recognized in NCAA rankings. I guess because he’s not considered a guard.

DJ has only been playing the PG recently and has a 1 to 1 turnover ratio. I expect (hope) that gets better.

Nwora is a 0.6 and Sam is a 0.4.

And DJ needs to grow into the role. I think he’s the guy, but you hate to put the decision making in his hands while he’s still learning to run the team as a freshman. But, Perry and Fresh are leaving us with no other option.

If we had a better facilitator, DJ and Nwora off the ball would be a lethal combo. Then you’d have more space for Enoch in the post to get better passes.

People think when I say he’s a combo guard it’s an insult. A combo guard can play point. Steph Curry was a combo guard that had to develop into a point guard. His ability to score at multiple levels opens the floor up now and once he adds some floor general skills it will much better.

So yeah, I’d say let’s just ride with DJ through his mistakes and see how much he grows.

All good points, the thing that I would like to see improve is the free throw percentage. Horrible FF shooting has already cost them one victory. I believe any team that makes a deep tourney run needs to be over 72-73%.

Interesting point. I think this team ranks as the 5th best percentage wise U of L free throw shooting team over 70%. I think it is during crunch time when this team needs to improve their foul shooting.

In terms of minutes, this is basically the same team as last year, and that team last year was great at free throws. It seems realistic to trend back to a good % going forward, and this needs to happen by March completely agree.

If you're unhappy with this team you're probably measuring them against a standard that doesn't exist in the game this year. I watched the first half of Baylor-OK State this weekend. Baylor came out lethargic, getting out-hustled, clearly didn't show up. They eke'd out the win in the 2nd half and now they're ranked #1. That is the real standard, and I believe we're either meeting or exceeding it.

I kind of agree with this, though I'm not so sure how superior the talent really is. I think what happened against Duke had as much to do with focus, some great bench coaching (overlooked maybe), and toughness. Duke also might have just been a great matchup for the Cards - not an overly physical team at all really. Not saying they aren't good, but they are pretty much a bunch of shooters with one legit big guy who is not great but just good/ok. Nobody on Duke's team showed much resistance in the paint. Other teams on the schedule have bigger/stronger/tougher "dudes" and Tech, despite being coached by a clown, still has some rugged guys there.
