Insane, I don't think college coaches really want to start this trend that is prevalent in basketball of guys completely skipping their last year of high school & trying to play college football at 17 yrs old

I was on ESPN's FB Recruiting page recently and I saw where USC got a verbal from a top QB from the 2018 class. I believe he is the son of one their asst coaches.

Will be interesting to see how Muschamp does in Columbia. I think we have a good shot at beating them for the third straight time this season.

The QB is Jake Bentley and his dad was brought on staff with Muschamp. He was the old coach of Byrnes High School in SC. He was at auburn with Muschamp last year.

Damn, that should lock up the #1 class with him alone

Not sure if it was just updated or not, but both links on here (same one) now show him as a 5.8 four star.

If his dad is a college coach I wonder why he would let him skip his senior year, impressive to be a four star before playing as a senior, but I don't see it helping his overall career.

Maybe his dad wants to coach him and doesn't think Muschamp will last long, LOL.

That's what I thought when I first heard this. He'll probably be too old to compete as a HS senior.

The whole thing makes a lot of sense if that is the case. I think the limit was 21 way back when I was in high school, our starting QB from the 8th grade on missed part of his senior year because he was too old-----starting QB in the 8th grade, all conference as a freshman, he could throw the ball------and he played LB on D.

Pineville (tiny school, big recruiters) was number one in the state when we played them as juniors at Pineville, we were leading them 14-7 at the half and Jack was having a great game, went to college with one of their players as a freshman that said their coach told them to get him out or the game any way they could------he got a concussion and we got beat 42-14, lost two other starters for that game also. They stayed number one until the last game of the year when Corbin upset them (we tied Corbin that year 0-0 on the golf course the game before they played Pineville-----Ed Selvy of THE Selvy's was their QB, good football player) and the next year Corbin dropped us for a name Louisville school (thank God, Calvin Bird, that went wild that year, Wilder, Chandler, Miller, Turner, etc etc, they recruited some also but most were from Corbin, I knew several of them) that they beat handily and were number one in the state all year. Most of those players were on their freshman team that didn't win a game as freshmen, guess they had to do something-----and they did. I know several ended up at UK but the story was that Lou Michaels beat several of them up and sent them packing, of course Calvin was UK's big recruit the year after that.

I went home with a guy from Pineville in 1974, I think he told me they played either 7 man or 9 man football and every boy was required to be on the team. I think he said 9 people were in his graduating class. It was sort of funny the big thing on Friday night in Pineville was for everybody to go to the HS gym. I think Middlesboro was playing in the first round of the playoffs and we went to the game to see what talent was available. Good times.
