There was a nice sequence where he pushed off to get an offensive rebound then lowered his shoulder into the man both could have been called fouls. Then gets his shot blocked clean and gets a foul anyway. Also shuffles his pivot foot a lot
I watched that whole sequence and was pissed all over again about the **** they call on Myles. I’m fine if they let them bang, but call it evenly.

Its amazing he doesn't get called on those ball screens. He's constantly repositioning.
And watch him go for a rebound he consistently pushes the other players in the back without a call ever made on him. Iowa is famous for setting moving picks that’s how they get their guys open for 3 pointers

Iowa defender went under screen for some ungodly reason with MN down 3, at the end of regulation

During our game with OSU, the color guy talked quite a bit about the bigs getting calls that are not fouls in his opinion. He mentioned a few of them but when he said Garza, he kind of said something like he's figured it out.
I don't know how this is possible unless the refs are just letting him get away with more.

Bad game by Garza and Iowa still scores 95 points.Great offense and no defense wins at home but on the road with so many teams having 3 point scorers Iowa will probably lose at least 5 league games.

Going under the screen.....his fault the game was lost.

Iowa won’t outscore people for 6 straight games.

Iowa players usually don't foul out because they sometimes consider defense as optional. This bunch reminds me a lot of the Iowa team of '69-'70, who were Big Ten champions the year I was at Northwestern. That team averaged more than 90 points per game in an era where there was no shot clock. Had two future NBA players in John Johnson and Fred "Downtown" Brown, who would have had about 300 more career points if there had been a three-point shot then. Also had one of my favorite all-nickname team players in Glenn "the stick" Vidnivic. That team lost in the NCAA tourney to eventual runner-up Jacksonville, which featured Artis Gilmore. Both teams scored over 100 points in that game.

The league is so close that whoever is "on" a given night probably wins the game. Whoever is a little "off" loses, then there is the officials factor, all you can hope for is they are the same and consistent on both ends of the floor, good or bad.
One huge problem area is when someone gets physically backed down, when the offensive player is allowed to physically overpower or body the defender on the blocks. If your facing the defender and he is set it is an offensive foul, if your back is to the defender its OK to physically push him out of the way, leaves the ref to decide when enough is enough, and makes it virtually impossible to consistently call the game or defend in the post

I just searched multiple nba mock draft sites. I didn’t see Garza’s name in the top 60 in any list. FWIW, Ron Harper appears on 3 mock drafts.

Crazy, I have no idea what makes a player NBA worthy then.

Garza is crafty but also gets away with switching pivot feet and using his elbows to clear space. Because he can hit the 3
, he has a chance to be drafted. He is slower than a lot of NBA players but his game can be modeled after Nicola Jovic on the Nuggets. Someone who is impossible to defend , who can hardly jump , but is so smart . Jovic has a much better handle than Garza but both can hit the mid range , the 3, and free throws. If I am a GM I am drafting him.

Megan Gustafson on the Iowa women’s team was B1G player of the year two years ago and basically was female equivalent of Garza (maybe without 3 point threat). Got cut preseason in WNBA. Style didn’t translate to pro ball.

Agree. I think he’s a beast. Probably the college player of the year. And potentially not drafted? Strange
He will have a problem running the floor with the post players in the NBA. The era of the 'We'll wait till our big guy makes it back down the
floor to run the offense' is long gone.
