I've got some buddies in for the first day of college football and asked them about this, some coach ball up in Cleveland County, some in Iredell County, and some in Gaston County. It's my one day a year other than the NFL Draft that I do absolutely nothing. Grass can stay knee high for another day. They said most of the time nonconference games are signed contracts that last for two years. If you break the contract you end up having to pay some kind of penalty or fine. I don't know if that's true for every situation, but that's what they said.

I think both programs lost a massive gate by not playing, I went to a couple of those games in past years and it was absolutely PACKED, and Cramer was getting slaugtered. All it's given us is the opportunity to guess and argue who would win. Did South Point want to play? Probably undoubtably. It was a program that they had dominated since it's inception, other than one year. Did Cramer want to play? I'd say at the time if you looked at where the program was, the coaches and players would say they just wanted to win.

Now, if either side could have seen the future and saw the 2025 and 2026 Cramer teams are potentially, by record the greatest teams in school history. Then they'd have been more likely to play. I like South Point. Hodge, Mickey, Mitch, Brian, etc. have all spoken to me when I see them in public and congratulate them on a great game or season. I appreciate the tradition and history that they try to upkeep. But I'm not one of those guys that sees things through red colored lenses. Cramer appears to have turned the corner. They had a great senior class last year, and the same could be said for this bunch. From what I read on here and through the Gazette (man I miss when that thing was worth reading). I see some of their dudes out and about in Belmont from time to time, but I don't know them so I don't speak.

I'm not originally from here, why is there so much animosity between the two programs? or at least fan bases?

It's been a good start for SE Gaston County, Just hope both sides continue, it would sure be nice for lil' ol Gaston County to be represented deep in the playoffs.

I will say if changes were not made at Cramer there was no sense in playing that game anymore. So when that decision was made 2 years ago to take SP off the schedule in every sport not just football (for 2 years is what I heard), before the changes were made to the football staff, I can at least see why the people who made that decision, did what they did. Still don’t like it.

No need... I factor in Coaching for SP...I've seen plenty of teams have way more talent at pretty much every position vs SP and they lose... so talent is talent... you still gotta line em up.

I’m not trying to one up you. I pulled for SP for years and years and years, and still hope they do well, but this group of Cramer seniors I have been following since their 7th grade year and your nephew is definitely one of my favorites.

SP has plenty to dislike SP for... for actions done on the field early in the "rivalry", for all the antagonistic stuff that goes on toward SP with spreading rumors, etc. It has been forgiven as evidenced by how easy SP went on SC in recent football games.

You are correct though, I am a SC fan...as I am fan of most Gaston County Schools on this side of the county.

I remember SC being built, but I also remember going to games in the 90's and watching Courtney Williams, Shannon Armstrong, Matt Butler, Jason Lineberger, and others play in Lineberger Stadium. So yeah, I'm a fan of them as well.

Again this years team will control what they can with the teams that were laid out in front of them by their administration and the NCHSSA. Good luck to the Big Red as I know they will do well as they have for the last 50 years. Again if you or Rockshow or anyone else who backs the Big Red wants to make that Byrums bet I offered a few messages back, I am willing to take the SC portion of it.
