Thinking about looking into the Direct TV Genie. Anybody with input on this? Is it worth the update? Heck, I don't even know how much the upgrade is. Does it cost a lot more?

We upgraded last year and love the Genie. Multiple channel recording is a great feature. And premium content ordering via wifi is great. I hear they have wireless ones now that you can put anywhere in your home without running cable.

I got mine 1 yr ago. It works well, but the secondary unit has a lag time to it of a few seconds. It only makes a difference when I watch a game downstairs and my wife watches upstairs. I got some special where I paid $50 for install. They fixed a bunch of other stuff while they were doing it.

I got it when I subscribed to DirectTV for the first time. My wife and I love it. Works great. In July, I am eligible for the Wireless Genie, which I am going to do.

I am thinking about getting the Genie because I can get full upgrade and installation for free. The only draw back for me is with my present Whole Home setup I have it Hard wired which I prefer over Wireless and I do not think you can do Hard Wire with the Genie.

I might be wrong about Hard Wiring Genie setup. Maybe someone with Genie can answer this?

It really is a nice system. I had to get off the 1982 cable box that TW Cable supplied so I moved over to DTV a couple of years ago. I especially like the phone app that lets you watch TV from your account or set your DVR when you are out. The interfaces are slick, generally bug-free and have a lot of cool features that actually get used...
