Kind of what I’m thinking too, unless during warmups he feels like he shouldn’t push it. But if he had a complete practice yesterday I can see him coming off the bench for a couple runs.

remember, he has basically another week after this game to keep getting treatment as well. If he looks good in practice and warmups, no harm giving him minutes. Remember, the training staff would not allow him to play if they didn't feel he was healthy enough to.

What a difference how they treat sprained ankles today versus when I played. Back in that day we would tape it up and be back out there. I was back practicing 3 weeks after breaking an ankle (hairline) when xrays showed it had healed. When my daughter sprained her ankle during softaball her senior year they were saying it was a month to recover. I'm not saying today's approach is wrong just noting the difference now versus then.

Back in the dark ages when I fractured my ankle & tore ligaments playing baseball in college they slapped a cast on. After 6 or so weeks they took it off & said have a good life. No physical therapy or anything like that. Didn't play for a couple of years until went back to semi pro ball. Didn't really get strong until I went ironworking. Believe all the climbing acted as therapy.

Stone Age medicine.
Mantle was in a cast up to his hip and completely immobilized after his first knee surgery

I'm not a Dr. but I believe, depending on the severity of the fracture, a severe sprain, esp. if high, can actually take longer to heal.

If the training staff is Good, and Geo is Good, and Pike says he's Good, he's Good. Rest probably helps but lack of playing also hurts, too. He needs to get into playing shape again and not against the scout team or anyone with an R on their Jersey.

So maybe he gets five minutes tonight and more minutes against the Illini...and more against tOSU, etc....

Don’t think anyone will complain if Geo doesn’t play. More like an IF Geo played might have changed the outcome.

Either way, go out and play like the 19th ranked team and win.

You know what? It just hit me: we're #19 and have done it WITHOUT the Captain! It'll be nice when he's back!

If he misses a close game in March and we lose because he rushed back to play a game in December - then I will be disappointed. I’m not concerned about December and January.

Ankle injuries are complex and force you to compensate in ways that generate other injuries. We’re poised to make runs in the B1G and NCAA tournaments - those are the prizes, not UMD in December.

30 years back, I would go to the trainer's office under the RAC. I'd get electric stimulation pads and a special little foot table with weights and springs to build strength. Outside of steroids, I don't think they've improved that much.

Let's be serious, you know they wouldn't let him play if there was any cause for concern that it wasn't healed or he could do any additional long term damage that wouldn't be possible in a week or a month from now. They are aren't rushing him back by any means and are still babying the ankle (and rightfully so) which is the reason why they are easing him back into action potentially tonight rather than against Cuse.
