As Geo goes, so go the Scarlet Knights. If someone who had never seen us play watched the game today they would ask why is that kid starting. Then there are games when he looks like an All American. McConnell is moving up the ladder. I know he doesn't start, but he's a more complete player than Mathis - longer, his length makes him a better defender, better handle and better shooter.

Geo really does need to work on his consistency. If he's having a bad game I would really like to see Pike lean on Caleb a little more. Take some pressure off Geo when he's having an off night. Regardless he needs more minutes.

He gets the charging call on one of the first possessions of the game and its like he loses all confidence and completely disappears. He needs to be in double figures every game for us to win, he cannot sit back and be passive and be sloppy with the ball

As I recall he has played well in 3 of the last 8 halves. Poor in 5 of 8.
2 of Those three happen to be the 2nd halves of nebby, and Indy where we came back and won.
So I agree...but he is just too inconsistent..just like Corey.
And so ok. Just that pike needs to sit him when not playing well. I can see that if a guy like Caleb can step in. Maybe that starts after today.

Geo will be fine. He got outplayed physically and mentally today. Caleb played great but lets slow down here and not heap expectations on him. He isnt taking Geo's job nor he is taking Mathis role either. We have a lot of youth...Geo is still young as a soph, we forget that. They are all not at the level and maturity yet that they need to be to win games consistently, that is okay for now

You could see early that the game plan was to take Geo out of the game. Someone has to step up.

Never said he's losing his job. He is a good player. It's not crazy to think however that Mathis loses his. Harper is really a better all around player, Mulcahy will start by mid season next year, and Jacobs is a better three point shooter with a much better handle. Someone has got to sit. I think a year from today Mathis becomes the perfect sixth man.

Geo had an off day today. Period. McConnell had a very good day, but we need EVERYONE contributing to win. Mathis has been in a funk the last two games, but he's also a freshman and as a freshman sometimes playing at this level kids at different times will hit a wall. Let's hope this is just a hiccup with him.

Going back to Geo, he has had these kinds of games where he isn't effective on both ends of the floor. It happens. He's a sophomore and he's playing out of position, so it's not unusual to see him a bit up and down. Playing on the road is a completely different animal than playing at home.

Geo is playing out of position for a team that might be Penn State bad if he couldn’t competently run the team. That written, he has been very up and down this season. Overall the numbers are really solid, but done inconsistently.

Not to bash someone totally unrelated, but we need to improve our sports psychology. With a little research, it’s the same person who consults the Cleveland Indians, NY Rangers, and our football and basketball teams. Those pro teams have done great at times, but when you think about the clutch moments not so great. Cleveland up 3-1 in series and losing in 2016 World Series. NY Rangers with 3 overtime losses in 2014 Stanley Cup. Not to mention all of the missed opportunities when we were decent at football. Along with our free throw shooting, which is such a mental test.

Sometimes when Geo is struggling, you can kind of read it in his body language. IMO, he needs to have some controlled swagger. When shots don’t fall, which happens to everybody, he needs to know that he still is the sh*t that can take over the game. If not shooting, then creating for others and driving hard and dishing. When you’re in the zone, everything seems to slow down and be clear. I feel like he’s forcing a lot of things sometimes and a little rushed and disorganized when he’s struggling.

Mathis does something that no one else on this team so far really does. He slashes and attacks downhill with authority. Besides post players, no one else really gets much And 1’s besides him. You need someone aggressive and explosive like that. Unless someone else can change that, he’s going to be starting for a while.

I thought Ohio state did a great job on geo today. Obviously not geos A game, but I thought he wasn’t too bad. Most of his misses were tough shots and not many turnovers. Until this team has the talent to take some of the focus off geo he is going to have games like this as a sophomore. It doesn’t come down to swagger lol.

So we have a sport's psychologist who sucks as well and is still employed. Wonderful. Probably still using the old, shoot for the stars and at least you'll reach the moon line.

Saying Mathis might be the perfect sixth man a year from now is not exactly throwing him under the bus. Yes, he did help us win those games, but the things I said about him (comparing him to our other guards next year) are all true. Take away his ability to drive and you basically have a very good defensive player and rebounding guard, at least at this point.

He has shown more than any freshman thus far and you have him already out of the starting rotation...yes you are throwing him under the bus for 2 players that have not seen the court. Plus Harper shown nowhere near the capabilty that Mathis has

If he had 16/6 the past games you would be posting this...relax he had two bad games

Several of you make it sound like Geo just had 1 off day today. Okay, ill be back to this thread tomorrow after I have a chance to look at the game by game FACTS. That would include his frosh stats vs. Our current 2018 frosh stats so far. Keeping in mind he was the only one last year vs. 4 newbies this year.

Hard to know when he’s having a good night... he usually scores most of his points in a 5 minute span. If that span never happens, he doesn’t score much.
