Any suggestions on how to turn the tables on the ******* drivers out there who: (1) intentionally go/stay slow in the left lane preventing faster motorists from going on or (2) the jerk(s) who do not merge into line when a closed lane is ahead and go all the way to the front and force themselves in.

Encountered examples of both today. Cussing out, speeding past and giving the finger accomplishes nothing. These folks need/deserve to be scared to death after pulling stunts like these.

I feel your pain but trying to get "revenge" can only create a bad or dangerous situation for the other driver or you. That's not the kind of punishment I'm sure you had in mind.

I will occasionally sound my horn at someone who seems to be asleep at the wheel in the hopes of waking them up, but that's about it.

I detailed a plan about this very thing last October...

"It’s time for a change. Sometimes the herd needs to be thinned. It’s science. You know what I’m talking about, and even if the idea is initially abhorrent, deep down you know you agree. It’s time for a real-life Purge, interstate-style. Yes. We. Can.

We all (the intelligent and courteous among us anyway) know the problem...it’s a cliche at this point...say it with me as I type...Slow left-lane drivers (SLLDs) clogging our nation’s highways make EVERYONE’S driving experience needlessly suffer.

The solution: Allowing intelligent, normal, read: GOOD, drivers to legally — fatally — shoot SLLDs on sight, without fear of criminal or civil prosecution. I know this may sound harsh, but it has to be done. We as a society cannot allow this affront to basic human decency to continue any longer.

Multiple tags could be purchased (similar to deer or alligator tags, for instance), at say $200 apiece. Video proof in the form of dash cam footage would be required, of course. This footage could be uploaded to a central agency which, after checking that the “hunter” had a valid current tag, would then issue an immediate “approval” signal to the hunter that he was a “GO” for termination. BOOM! one less GDMFCS STUPID SOB mucking along at 70.5 mph in the GDMF fast lane.

It wouldn’t take long for people to get the message. Either they’d wise up and GTFO (over, not out), or they’d be too stupid to see their fellow idiots getting purged, in which case they’d soon be gone too.

Let’s get this done."

Last second lane mergers are good for traffic, it's the people who merge too early that cause all the problems.

Waiting until the lane starts to close and doing a zipper-type merge (left-right-left-right, etc) allows for the most efficient flow of traffic. The problems occur when...
1. people get over before the merge point, causing unnecessary slow down
2. people in the main lane (the one being merged into) don't allow ONE car in, thus breaking the zipper
3. people merging try to get in front of someone that has already allowed a car in, basically doing the mirror of #2 and breaking the zipper

I don’t know about that one, but I love putting weave in and out of traffic wrecklessly to save 38 seconds guy in the box.

It works best on four lane roads. Granted, my driving style is I go pretty fast in the left lane (80-85 if possible), but if someone gets on my ***, i get over ASAP and let them pass.

The box works like this:

1. See an ******* weaving in an out of traffic and making repeated lane changes sans blinker.
2. Get in left lane
3. Pull your front bumper even with the rear bumper of the car in the right lane.
4. Stay there for at least 3 miles.
5. Point and laugh at the frustrated ******* you put in ... the box.

I only box in people who deserve it. Use your turn signals and drive normal.

Whatever you do, just prepared for things to get real. If you’re not, just keep driving.

People who get angry at zipper merging are part of the problem. If you don't like people going in front of you then get in the open lane and go to the end yourself.

Leaving hundreds of yards of a perfectly usable lane open is a great way to prevent traffic!

Age has taught me to let go of my anger before I get into a situation and get shot and killed.
But what if you were legally allowed to be the one doing the shooting and killing, while doing society a favor at the same time -- would you start holding onto your anger then?

OP: Get out of the left lane I shouldn’t have to wait behind you!

Also OP: Get out of the open lane you should have to wait behind me!

Driving on the Snyder is the worst. I wish the cops would patrol in unmarked cars looking for the people where there is a half mile of cars in the left lane but some jackoff can get in the right lane and cut someone off to move up 2 cars in that 1/2 mile of cars.

The worst are the MF'ers that speed up when trying to pass them when they should just have gotten over in the first place. I never lose that battle. I pass them up and slide in front of them the second I see their front bumper. Watching their reactions in my rear view should be Emmy nominated.

The bold is what you are supposed to do. It's called zippering and it prevents wasting the roadway that is not blocked. It more efficiently clears the traffic behind the block. Google it.

I haven't taken the drivers test in a long time but we weren't taught the zippering phenomenon. It should be touched upon I think.

I mean more traffic gets further forward using all lanes for as long as possible. Helps people behind you to get off at their exit sooner.

I have worked with some guys that have very real PTSD from time they spent in active duty. It would be a really bad idea to cut-off, blink your breaks, flash the bird, etc... at any of these guys.
They are basically good guys, fought for our country and by looking, you'd never know there was a problem....that is until they interpret or misinterpret something as a threat.
I've told my kids, wife, friends to restrain from venting on the road no matter what some idiot does. Come home and vent on me. I'd rather that happen than have someone follow them home or to their intended destination and severely hurt them.
Today's road rage ain't your dad's road rage.

I live in Houston. Retaliation is pretty stupid. If your well being isn’t threatened, but it’s just inconsiderate driving, just grin and bear it. Too many nut jobs just looking for a reason.

Driving pet peeves:

1. Why the f does anyone ever tailgate? There's no rule that says you have to ride right up on somebody's *** while driving in traffic. Keep a wide berth between you and the car in front of you and things flow a lot easier. This whole driving thing isn't hard. If I'm going 5-10 mph over the speed limit in the left lane you can at least give me an opportunity to get over when I'm able to before you cut around in the right lane and cut someone else off in the process just to make some sort of stupid statement. Congrats prick.

2. Impatient mergers: If I'm on a merging ramp and you're directly behind me on the merging ramp as well, wait until I get over and complete merging before you try to cut left and around me before you're allowed to, ya f'n psycho. Your little ***** *** can wait 5 more seconds to let me get on the highway and then you can get over and speed by like the passive-aggressive puss you are.

3. I know it's tough to chow down on your baconator and drive at the same time, but you can slide your greasy, pasty, fat, deadless arm a few inches over and hit a turn signal when you're getting ready to change lanes or turn off the road.

Lay this one on them op:

I had some douche pass me on the way to work the other night. I was in the middle lane and he passed me in the far right lane and flips me off. I had no idea why. He speeds up and takes off, I catch up to him and put down my window to find out his beef but instead he took the puss way out and kept his window up. He then gunned it and got off the next exit and flipped me off again like the puss he was. He made sure to take the exit at the last second so I didn’t follow him. I hope someone keys his car

I'm not going to mount a machine gun on my car but have looked into getting one of the cop spotlights for the front door pillar. Im really only pissed off by people who drive with their high beams on full time and I'm seeing it more often. I've even seen some people of the rural persuasion driving with off road light bars on. That should be immediate loss of license in my opinion.

I don't like people coming at me with their high beams on, but I also think people mistake the newer LED headlights, which are whiter and brighter, as someone having their high beams on. I've had a number of people flash their headlights at me when I didn't have my high beams on. I returned the favor just to prove it. My car also senses oncoming vehicles and automatically adjusts down my high beams, which is good because I live out in a rural area that's not well lit. and i need the high beams to watch for deer and other critters.

It doesn't matter how fast you are going, the left lane is for passing. If someone BEHIND you can go past you in the right lane, then you could have gotten over. As to why people are tailgating you, because your dumbass won't get over.

-to make the "zipper" work effectively you have to have an educated driving populace. We don't.

-i don't experience much "road rage". Once you accept the fact that much of humanity is stupid/selfish...and that that is amplified given the anonymity/shelter of a vehicle, you lower expectations. Its better this way.

-i do have a pet peave. in traffic: if you leave a bit of room between cars for safety some idiot will try to fill it. If you do the math lane-weaver/space filler guy isn't picking up any time...they're just endangering lives. See above.

There's no easy answer to this issue that's safe for everyone. I just learned to "let it go" and not worry about it. I'm not going to change anyone by reacting for some pay-back or revenge; instead, I'd probably incite some road rage and end up getting shot. People are crazy out there and you never know who you're dealing with. You try to get back at the wrong person and you could end up dead.
