Just imagine the mess it's going to be when the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies collide in 2 billion years .

If you stop the video at the 1:53 mark and stare at the screen intently, you can see 3 F-16's, an aircraft carrier and some dolphins frolicking about.

The distances between stars in both galaxies is so vast that there should not be any collisions between stars.. Both will simple merge into a single galaxy after a few million years.

It's a safe stance to take since we can only see a small portion of our own galaxy . There could be many influences and nobody would know the difference , it could very well not have an impact on our solar system and the popular thought could be "no big deal" . There is no way to know one way or the other until it happens .

I would think one of those Hubble Deep Field pictures would be the biggest ever. Especially if you consider the distances involved.

It's from the Hubble. The video starts out with the info at the bottom, but it's hard to read unless you go full screen.

I realize that.

"They took 411 images and put them together to create the largest image ever taken. It’s a whopping 1.5 billion pixels and requires about 4.3 GB of disk space!

The image takes you through over 100 million stars and travels more than 40,000 light years."

I'm just saying the Deep Field pic dwarfs this one when taking into account the size of the object photographed. This pic covers one galaxy. Deep Field contains thousands of galaxies and shows million of light years of distance. Not saying at all this pic is not impressive.

Just a different way to look at it.

The Deep Field photo is one I can sit and stare out for a long time; it just boggles the mind to know there are that many GALAXIES in just a tiny "slice" of our night sky.

To me, it's solid proof there MUST be other sentient beings in our universe; the odds are just too great when you take into account just how many stars there are in the entire universe.

Fascinating stuff for sure. Thanks for the pic OP.

The possibilities are endless. Perhaps 5 billion years ago there was an abundance of life in our galaxy. Maybe we were just late to the show. Could be we are pioneers and got started early. In relation to cosmological time, humans have had capacity to send and receive radio signals for a nanosecond.

I believe life began on Earth due to a specific set of circumstances and substances. Given the vast amount of opportunities, this same event has undoubtedly happened, or will happen, on other similar planets. The timing of these events and their proximity to Earth make it highly unlikely we will ever be contacted, much less visited.

Just remember the wow signal. anyone with common sense can tell you to dismiss that just because it never came back is silly. The only chance of a signal repeating like that is if they knew we were hear and were purposefully communicating with us........ instead its 99.9% probability an alien signal from that far away is not meant for us

How anyone can look at that and still think that we are the only life out there amazes me.

^ because the bible tells them so.

Life probably did start here because the circumstances were perfect but we didn't just go from monkeys picking bugs off other monkeys asses to possibly putting people on Mars in five years. We had help. That help came from andromeda

Researchers at Florida State successfully decoded the Wow! signal a few years ago, saying that it translated as "DTF?"
