Really tough. 2 major injury if not acl tear. he went all the way out to oak hill just to compete on a very high level in HS and get great practice and coaching in. Now he has to endure this process again. He's lucky we live in the world of medical advancement Evdn 10 years ago he'd be abroken cause

No mattee where you go, get better young man

I think it now even makes more sense for Harry to go to UK or Duke. In both cases he can take as long as he wants to get healthy without the pressure of carrying a team on his back. In either case of he doesn't play until the conference season starts the team will be fine.

decision is being pushed up now alledgedly. my guess is that he's going to want to have this surgery at Duke and begin the rehab process with our team.

Obviously feel terrible for the kid. I guess the only question I have is what does his father mean by "partial tear" and to what extent does it impact rehab -- i.e., is it a tear that you can repair, or do you need to basically do a full ACL rebuild with a new ligament.

Have to worry about his longterm future at this point and whether he's the type of kid who can stay healthy. Just aweful news.

Pretty unfortunate for him. Just awful news.

The announcement is being moved up and could happen as early as tonight from what I've been told. That's not shocking. All reports suggest he's known for a while where he was going.

A slight tear he came back from acl and mcl tears in 7 months so I would expect him 100 percent by end of summer.

No. 1 prospect Harry Giles is expected to announce his college decision tomorrow at noon on SportsCenter.

^ This. Man, I feel so bad for this young man. He must be devastated. I have had all the damage that has happened to Giles, except having it happen to the other leg, so I can relate to what he is going through. I never had the re-hab available to me that he will have. I have been afraid of this happening for a long time, but didn't want to mention it and be considered a pessimist.
Harry, if you select Duke, you will have the best possible care that is out there. Will still welcome you to Duke with open arms. God Bless!
Go Duke!!

I've actually seen some UK fans say that they hope he chooses Duke now since he suffered this injury. It's like they think that just because he got injured that he's damaged goods now and they don't want him because of that.

Really sad for him. But, he also has a year to rehab. I was just at knee therapy myself this morning and on the bike next to an athlete (football player) who is in week 8 after ACL surgery repair. He was doing really well.

Obviously, bodies break down and he could get hurt again. But, much will depend on his mind and self-confidence when he gets back on the court next year.

How likely is an injury like this to happen again? And how much can we expect him to be his old self after the recovery?

Let's "Please" make this clear.

Every UK fan I know wishes nothing but the best for him. And every UK fan I know still wants him " BADLY"

Including me!!!!!!

I think we can all say, he's a awesome player. And he'll do great things wherever he plays. He seems like a great kid.

Everyone of us UK fans have thought he's Duke bound. We hold out hope and still want him.

I don't know any fan from any fanbase that doesn't want the best for this kid.

I hope nothing but the best for him no matter where he goes.

I've seen some fans saying that they think even after he recovers from this injury that he should sit out the following year as well and then enter the NBA Draft. The problem with that idea is that would mean that it would be 2 years since anyone has seen him play and even though he's already considered NBA ready, if he doesn't play again until after he's drafted then scouts won't have anything to go off of in determining if he's ready to play at an NBA level after the injury.

I was actually at the game the other night when Giles got hurt. I don't live that far from Oak Hill and the game was played at a local high school. You can imagine my surprise when I look over at the entrance to the gym and see UK head coach John Calipari walk in. I think my exact words were "holy s**t its John Calipari!" Pretty certain he was there to see Giles play so it was a disappointment for me (and probably Calipari) when he went out after only playing about 2 minutes. I knew it couldn't be good when he limped off and kept messing with his knee on the bench. He went to the locker room a few minutes after that and we never saw him again the rest of the night. Needless to say, Calipari left shortly after halftime. Wishing Giles a quick recovery and still hoping he comes to Duke.

I wouldn't get too excited about Calipari, he knows where Giles is heading. Oak Hill is a very deep talented team this year and have more than Giles being scouted.

I wasn't really excited about him scouting Giles - more just like dumbfounded that he showed up at that game. I live in a small town and this was at a small high school so we tend to get excited when a nationally recognized face shows up around here:). Alabama head coach Avery Johnson was there too doing a little scouting.

Several years ago I had similar experience. UNC was recruiting JamesOn curry. In fact he had already committed to the Tar Heels at the time. The game was at Eastern Alamance where Curry played.. HOF Coach Williams comes in right at the start of the game with Asst. Coach Steve Robinson. The place goes absolutely nuts. People are standing and yelling "Roy , Roy, Roy." HOF Coach Roy Williams just held his hands up in the air and waved to the crowd. I wondered why he picked the start of the game t make his entrance. Couldn't understand why he didn't get there a little early and find a spot without raising so much ruckus. I guess he was just running late. A short while after his visit Curry was busted for drugs and HOF Coach Roy Williams took away the offer which was the right thing to do. That was a big thing down in small town Mebane, NC where Curry was raised. curry went O.K. St. I'm not sure where he is today but I do think he left early for the draft. That's another reason HOF Coach Williams is the most interesting man in the world and a superstar.
