When do you guys think he will be back, do you think he will be 100 percent by Jan. I don't see why he can't be just as good,

I truly think he will be ok by the time of the Kansas game but like I have said before, I wouldn't want to rush things at all. With that being said, I think maybe mid to late December when he might be on the court ready to go.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he remained on something of a "minutes restriction" into the conference season, just to be cautious.

I could see him having a minutes restriction as well. Do you all think NBA GM's could possibly view him as a liability, having three knee surguries by the time he's 18? As much as I'd love to see him play, we are still very good without him so there shouldn't be any worry of him rushing his rehab.

I would bet he's not playing in the Kansas game, but I could be wrong too.

Despite what some will tell you, this is what it comes down too....him being healthy. He has the best doctors, the best coaches and the best teammates with his best interests in mind. Period.

The latest 'surgery' was a pretty simple procedure. As someone who suffered two major knee injuries (on the same knee) it resulted in two major surgeries. Following both of those major surgeries I needed to have some clean-up work done, or what is known as a scope. It's not invasive surgery like what is required when there's structural damage. I would even venture to guess that the 6-week timetable is more of a precaution than anything.

The THR medical team would disagree with your analysis.

had five knee surgeries back in the early seventies and was in a cast for 2-3 months each time.It amazes me how successful modern surgery is today but I honestly do not know what to expect from HG this year

THR thinks Harry will be lucky to ever walk again. Well they don't really believe that but thats what the regular negative cheat posters seem to think.

Well let's be honest here gotta. They do have experts over there that can dissect this thing and give their take on what will happen to Harry. To my knowledge we do not have a doctor of medicine that can analyze this this like dr. steat can . OFC

It was estimated as a 6 week recovery and K seemed positive. As an NFL fan, I've found follow-up surgeries for "clean up" purposes pretty common in players with ACL/MCL tears. 6 weeks puts him around Nov. 20.

Hard to know when he'll be full speed - if ever this season. But, that Nov. 20 date gives him 40 days to January (basically another 5-6 weeks post surgery) which, unless there are unforeseen setbacks (which is often the case) should give him plenty of time to get in shape and to work with the other players on the team.

I am cautiously optimistic. If he can be rockin' and rollin' physically by the first week in January we should be in good shape for the conference and for his basketball to be peak for March.

Hahaha, they're a crack team for sure!

I couldn't help but think of the Three Stooges famous short with the "Calling Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard" scene. I made a few adjustments to it, and here's my version. If you watch it, turn the sound up.

It's going to be a good week. Thanks, ODD.

I think this was mentioned in another thread but I can't Find it... Steve wiseman recently tweeted that Coach K told him Giles is Further along then expected in his knee scope recovery... any ideas on if he comes back earlier (meaning Kansas) or is the timeframe still the same to ensure optimal recovery?

I don't think we see him vs KU, but I think he suits up. I think it'll be first game after that.

Thanks Timo! That's great news! So glad we have the team doctors and training staff/facilities that we do! One of the very best in the business!

I definitely don't want him to play at Kansas. That's a bad game to come back to, he'll possibly push it to hard. I know this sounds weird coming from me but honestly. I don't care about the Kansas game. I mean, I want to win. But it won't hurt us in the least if we lose it. If we had a lesser team, I'd want as many wins as possible, but this team is all about tuning up for the Big Dance. This could be #6 and I say that with confidence. Harry takes it slow, we stay healthy and NOBODY will want to see us in March.

FWIW, I saw Harry on campus yesterday and he had his leg wrapped from about mid-calf up. He looked like he was moving pretty well at CTC though.

For some reason I feel like he won't play until after the Fall exams. Maybe he comes back Mid-December against Tennessee State - but obviously he won't need to log major minutes then, maybe 12-15. Gradually increase his minutes over the next month as long as he doesn't have any setbacks. Hopefully by March he'll be playing 30 minutes a game. Even without his presence, we're still a very formidable opponent that will be tough to take down. Get better, Harry! Please take as much recovery time as you need.

Yeah he seems like a really great kid. Hoping that he takes his time until he's fully ready, stays healthy, plays a huge role on a championship run, and then goes to get paid as one of the top young talents that he is.

Other than some nonsensical undefeated talk early in the year, the Kansas game will have no bearing on the rest of our year. This is not an Amile type situation where we have no formidable back up options and time is running short. There is no reason in the world to rush him back. Assuming he is 100% clear, work him back in slowly against some lesser competition, build up his confidence and then increase his minutes accordingly. This is not the week leading into the ACC tourney or NCAA tourney. We have plenty of time and yet probably only one shot to get it right.

I trust K will make the right decision. We can all speculate on his return, but the G.O.A.T. will do it the right way.

In fall 2006, Kansas beat Florida in some pre-season tourney; an acquaintance of mine was making a big deal of it and trying to put down Florida. Florida ended up winning their second 'ship in as many years, and this acquaintance looked like an idiot for making a mountain out of a mole hill. Point being: if Duke loses without Giles against Kansas in Nov, fine. If Duke goes on to win number 6 having lost to Kansas in Nov, better!

I'd be surprised if they throw him in against KU. I could see him suiting up but would be pretty shocked at him playing. I think the game after that though is when we see him.

Nope, just ask DSouthr and Steat. K WILL rush him back due to his unbelievable selfishness and bloated ego. He doesn't care about his players at all, he only cares about them helping him get wins. He is a disgusting excuse for a human being!

There is an article on ESPN about Tatum only beine out 2 weeks. In the article is a mention of how the procedure wentry for Giles. Almost sounds like it went better than expected.

I'd be surprised, too; the Kansas game is really just around the corner, actually. I've been hearing a lot of KU fans actually wanting him to play since if they lose, the loss will be worse for them, and if they win, pundits will spend the season delegitimizing their win as Duke will be a different team once Tatum and Giles have returned healthy.

Maybe hof coach roy williams should send pinson over to Duke to have that foot looked at. OFC
