That's the element that Gio brought: the ability to scramble and throw on the run. And with our O Line, even though it's better than last year, we need that.

Than Bolin did in 5 games

Now, if we can just do some play action on first down or run Gio (they are not respecting Gio on the run plays) - we might be able to open it up a bit more

Lets calm down a little bit. Illinois is god awful.

Agreed. It just goes to show you how in over his head Ash is. Based on how Gio is playing, why wasn't he named the starter back in August ?

What does Gio do in practice that's so bad that they don't start him over Laviano and Bolin? Only puts him in when things are dire? Dam shame because Rutgers could've had some more wins with him at QB.

Love Gio and always root for the guy on the field but this game is being won in the trenches. Period.

No idea why we didn’t run all over EMU. Maybe Gio is giving us a spark. Maybe the OL is gelling. Whatever it is I’m happy and don’t need to bash anyone to be happy.

In what world is Bolin a better passer than Gio?

In what world is either one of them a good passer?

Nothing personal against Gio but I don't know what people think they are seeing. He hasn't done jack in the passing game...ever.

Gio has played well, like his speed but not exactly lighting it up passing wise...... Illinois is not ohio st or wash

Gio has looked fine today but some of you are way over the top on his play. He's like 6-12 for 90 yds. We may have beaten EMU with Gio but it's no slam dunk.

We haven't thrown the ball much at all, and when we do it's on 3rd and 12. Of course his passing numbers won't be amazing. But he's doing great for the plays called to him.

Gio should have started the season and we maybe beat EMU and Nebraska.

Just like last year, he is the best QB on this team, which is not to say he is Tom Brady or even Mike Teel or Gary Nova, but he is good enough to beat the EMUs and low to mid level B1G teams, and that is dang well important.

Aggravating that coaches could make such a poor evaluation to start the year. We would have won at least one more game possibly two by now.

But happy that Gio is getting his chance

Agreed unless a grad transfer is brought in who's clearly better he should start next year as well, bring Lewis along slowly he's proven to me he's not better/ready

I agree , the problem is can Gio last more than a game?
