I don’t know the answer, but that seems like the kind of thing that would lead to a viral Tik Tok of a coach fight.
I put the shift on for two girls. The first one hit right into the shift. The second one went the other way with it. So we stopped doing that.

Btw, the four coaches on the other team almost tried to fight a 16 year old umpire because he was 3 for 3 on close calls going my team's way. Classless effers. I hope they make it to TikTok. I'll never get losing your mind over a call for 10-year old girls' softball.

I had a good family acquaintance nearly come after me on a game ending call. Oh. I wasn’t the umpire. Not a coach. I was the 13 year old scorekeeper and announcer.

Sports make people do strange things.

Don’t hit it there if they shift. Pretty simple. If they don’t like it, they’re butthurt

I umpired when I was a teen. We were provided zero training; just handed a rulebook and a uniform. I had no idea how to handle crazy parents.

The next year a union came in and made us join. They provided us detailed training (paid) and told us how to handle parents. Even at 15 years old, if you act like you own the place you can take care of a lot of BS.

I trained little league umps for 5 years. No throwing the rules book at them & letting them sink. Usually 4-5 sessions for three hours. Then had them do a couple of practice games - 2/3 guys sharing games & me instructing them together. Then attended first 1-2 real games for each. Started them with the 8/9 years old at 14 & they worked their way up to the HS FR age games. Some went on from there. Been 30 years ago.

I feel for those little early-teen refs that are supposed to call possession and offside in soccer. They just have to stay there and take it.

I looked at the rule book and all it says is “Softball is nothing but lesbians.”

WTF?

I never understood the backlash against the shift. Why the hell should I have to position a player somewhere I know you aren't going to hit the ball?
It’s like saying you can’t play zone…you can only plan man to man

play any kind of defense that will help you win. If you want to play all your outfielders in right field, tell your player to learn to hit to left field
