I view this year as a sort of extremely unlikely extension on last year. There’s no reason for this year to be better than last year, but the veteran guards have changed that. It’s given CCC a chance to extend his peak, however unlikely.

They may not have got offers from the schools, but how do you know they did not have conversations and decided not to continue the relationship building which would lead to an offer.

I hope we completely go away from the athletic looking 6'5"-6'8" wing who "projects" to become X, Y, or Z. If you don't have either the ability to put the ball in the basket, or make a play for someone else to put the ball in the basket from day one, I hope they don't play here. That whole "defensive specialist" thing is a fallacy in today's game.
I think players like Caleb Love will always be recruited heavily and we'll get more of them and become frustrated with other versions of that kind of player. Hopefully, those teams won't be completely dependent on their production like this team is. Every coach that has an ounce of confidence will think they can mold that kind of talent into a superstar college player.
I'm reserving judgment on Hubert until he's no longer coaching this core. I thought they were a fringe top 20'ish team coming into the season, so they haven't really disappointed much to me. I just don't think these guys are all that good. And the Nance for Manek trade is a distinct downgrade.
And it probably isn't apples to apples. But Northwestern is a lot better this year without Pete Nance and Ryan Young (Duke). Northwestern top 7 scorers this season were all on the team last year. So they had no real influx of freshman or transfers and they've equaled their win total from last year already. Again, not apples-to-apples, but Pete Nance never finished .500 or better at Northwestern. Then he and Ryan Young leave, Northwestern doesn't add anyone really and they're 15-6. I think that means something.

Good point on Northwestern. Covid just about got Collins fired, they were so bad a few years ago.
If you watch them this season, they are without a doubt a tournament team. They play disciplined and loose at the same time. I did watch a few games last season, and Nance and Young were both good players, but their scheme works better this season sans the two bigs.
