Really, really sad news for me. The Eagles were probably my second favorite band ever. Second only to the Beatles.

Frey was a very talented musician and song writer. Have seen the Eagles a couple of times - the last time being in Rupp a short while ago.

First Eagles song I remember was "Take It Easy". I was 13 years old. Cruising around with my 16 year old cousin in his 1963 Chevy Impala. Had the AM radio on WAKY cranked all the way up. Windows down on a long stretch of US 460. No seatbelts. I'll never forget looking at the speedometer and seeing it hit 100mph.

I said "all time", not just one year.
Eagles are 8, next to Mariah Carey and Celine Dion. So seriously, what's your point?

Sorry, that's albums.

However, 29 million albums. Elvis sold 130. But are you really trying to make a claim of quantity as a precursor for quality?

Why do some have to be so adversarial just because they don't like a musician that passed away?

sensible answer for the commentary I read. Nice garbage forum I reckon.
Just because you don't understand the culture and lack insight into what goes on here doesn't mean it's garbage. It just means you are ignorant of your surroundings. Leave the judgment calls at home hoss, especially when you lack information.

Whether or not you were an Eagles fan, the guitar work from this band was very good and tastefully done.

seeing people like you suggest a parallel is toughest for me
Not sure what you mean by suggesting a parallel but what I meant was that I liked and respected both artists and their bodies of work. I was a fan of The Eagles and David Bowie and it is tough when you lose a musician that you grew up with. If that's not your opinion, that's okay. It is mine and I hope you respect that.

Fantastic artist. Very sorry to hear of his passing. RIP. Loved his "Escape Fort Campbell to Nashville" song (Party Town) back in the day.

From watching "The History of the Eagles", Frey comes off as a total control freak and a real a-hole with anything involving the band and its direction. It was Frey's fight with another member that led to the break up of the band. Then when they were getting back together, Frey insisted that he and Henley be paid more than the others because they had better solo careers than the others.

I went to the Eagles concert in Rupp this past summer. The performance was very good but the band ordered that the A/C be turned off until the second half of the show which would be less acoustic. The only problem was that it was 90 degrees outside and the arena was a total sweat box for over an hour. I read later that this was Frey's idea.

Still he had a lot of talent and wrote or co-wrote most of the songs. He was also the main inspiration for the lead singer in the band from Cameron Crowe's move "Almost Famous". RIP Glenn.

John McEnroe on background vocals for Partytown.

Agree with above poster, Frey came off as an a$$ in the documentary. Never saw a real love for the music only being successful.

Frey was right though, he and Henley were clearly the 2 individuals that kept the allure of a reunion going because of their individual success.

Thought they did a good job explaining that with 5 members to a band it's impossible for all to carry the same weight in decision making. Frey and Henley probably should have had a knock down drag out fight and the winner got the main say so.

Instead those two went on to have very good individual careers. When they got back together only one of them had an issue with taking less which was a joke, and he was the *******.

I just got through watching History of the Eagles. Was really interesting to me. Honestly, do not see the problem with the way Frey and Henley behaved. They appeared to be the rare rock stars who were intelligent, level headed businessmen, who wanted to be paid for what they created. Ran the band like a company, or a sports team. Insisted no drugs or alcohol when the band was working, which means that they got more work done in one morning than the Stones did in a week.

As Frey said when discussing his problems with Don Felder, "well, yes, on the one hand we were all on the same team, but even on a team, not everyone gets to touch the ball". Hell, Frey and Henley were the creative force behind the Eagles, and when they reunited, none of the other guys had done a thing for more than ten years, while they both had very successful solo careers both musically and in Frey's case, acting. So why shouldn't they make more money?

Are we considering Joe Walsh a member? Because he had the only listenable songs/albums outside of the group.

Unless you want to consider frey and henley's mid-late 80s fru fru pop music "listenable." i won't deny that "the heat is on," "new york minute," "all she wants to do is dance," etc. aren't nice little guilty pleasure songs, but if I had to listen to any of them more than twice in a row, I might throw myself off of the hotel california.

I agree Joe Walsh deserved to be paid as much as Henley/Frey. His work outside Eagles was solid before and after joining the band. In their current History of the Eagles tour, the second half of their concert is basically the Joe Walsh show and even features his solo work. None of the other band member's solo work is performed as a part of that tour.

As for Don Fleder, I guess that no one wants to be told that you a less important part of the team. In the end, he won his suit against the band (through settlement) but was out of the band forever.

Would agree with your take on those songs, was thinking more along the lines of Boys of Summer, End of the Innocence, Leather and Lace (with Stevie Nicks). Point is, they were still on the charts and touring while no one else was (except maybe for Walsh - who had no problem with the money split). Also, I was totally unaware what a bad drunk Walsh was, impressive the way he pulled his ish together and got sober, have to respect him a lot for that.

Love Joe Walsh............an extremely talented guitar player that is very underrated, IMO. But yes, he was a hot mess. Glad he turned his life around.

Did you think he was joking about "life's been good"?
