Hilltoppers, the Hitters... edgy's #3, Beth's #2, the Trib's top 3 I'm sure, Dallas Jackson's #3, I'll just call them 1C. The state's top running back, the traditional tough as nails D that held Stevie to 7 points last season, O-line that is 40lbs bigger, 7 starters back on O, one of the top coaches in the state, one of the biggest home field advantages in the suburbs, almost the 30 year anniversary of Lucas... I know everyone is saying H-F or MC is destined (more on H-F in week 9), but it may be this squad that is headed for glory.

Can anyone get in their way? At this juncture they seem, to me, to be a run away train ready to leave mayhem in their wake with the 1st victim being: The Beloved

really really hope GW ends up 8a. If so, I think the 8a field will simply be best bracket we've had since we switched from 6 classes, especially given true seeding.

might be nice if computers play football...the computers have West at 6 in the state behind Barrington among others while 8A champ Homer Flosswood is listed at 5, so not sure who is calibrating the computers.

The good news is that no rain in the forecast this week so Duchon should be in great shape. Grass might be 10" by game time, so let's hope your boys have the right cleats

Besides, we now know there is "a huge gap" between Homer Flosswood /MC and West, so we should not be favored by much more than 6 pts

Just to be sure, the computers have us beating Joliet C 42-13 and GBW beating Morton 46-3

so it seems calibrated correctly. But I agree, the computers dont play football which is why I am skeptical as to whether 34-12 is too close.

I'm fairly certain there is a LB that will keep this game tight. Looking forward to seeing him in person. We have played some great LBs in the last 3-4 years from WWS, LZ and Stevie. This time next week, we will know where he ranks compared to those guys.

Earlier in the summer, I commented that this could be the best GW team ever: the best RB in the state, 3 or 4 additional RB that will blow your mind, a quality QB, 2 or 3 reasonable receivers, a high power offensive line, a very good group of linebackers, a fast d-line with more size than the last few years. The only question has been how quickly the secondary would come together, and all indications are that they are going to start the season at full strength. I'm not sure which team is number 1, but this team will be there in November to test all comers. Best of luck to all the top teams in the state. This will be a fun season.

GBW wins going away. No dog in this fight. This is not the Brook's year.
thats what im saying pj. I have a couple things to hang my hopes on, but those things likely can only serve to keep it from being a tin man. A) Their D will be as inexperienced as our O and B) typically you dont just run it down our throats (unless the D is young and inexperienced)

There you go. Doesn't that just feel better?

It wouldn't really be that stunning. Week 1 non conference games are always a crap shoot. Add the fact the two teams have never played and you have the cauldron of uncertainty.

Does this mean you are taking the six points? I promise not to troll you all year trying to collect. Better yet let's keep it friendly.

GBW beat The Brook 30 years ago in our 1st playoff appearance 35-7
I picked us to win against MC in 2010 knowing we would get clocked... its being a fanatic. So even though the spread should be about 40, I'll take my guys head up lol

Cheers to being fanatical. Best of luck to your boys. Out on the field last night and it is in great shape. I don't sense a bit of self induced pressure as all attention on the two teams above the "wide gap"

All jokes aside, it should be a competitive one and this is one of those games that highlight why HS football is the best sport. Hands down.

No doubt it will be competitive. Da Brook doesn't tap out like some WSS teams. I'm sure that LB can will that team to stay in the game for 48 minutes.

Just looked at the forecast and it looks like showers tonight will soften the field. Picking the right cleats will be key
