Yes, there was a Global Cooling scare in the 70's. At the same time, we were told that we would run out of fossil fuels in a few short decades (which is also wrong as we sit on a glut of natural gas and have plenty of coal 30 years later). The implication was that we might freeze to death.

I have no problem with the climate data (assuming that it hasn't been manipulated like happened in Britain). Its the dire forecasts that prove to be wrong over and over that I have a problem with.

I clearly remember dire global cooling predictions in the 70's. I don't think that the media just made it up. They got it from the same eggheads that are predicting new end of days scenarios regarding warming. The data is probably right but their predictions are terribly inaccurate.
