By the way, everyone in Lexington during the 60s and 70s either went to school or was best friends with Jim Varney, in case you hadn't heard ...
My father-in-law swears they were best buds and he wasn't even from Lexington. Attended a camp or something together one summer and they were blood brothers (according to my FIL). Translation - we met one day - maybe even hung out for an hour or so. Ha!

My guess is, he was a talented guy who happened to not be a total jackass and was really friendly to everyone he met. Prolly would've had like infinity followers on Instagram.

My dad went to high school with him in Lexington. I think it was Lafayette. He said they were friends.

I met him the summer of 1970 when he came around to see a housemate of mine. He was playing the romantic lead in a local dinner theater production. He wasn't always the dumb hick.
