Wow, I never knew some people could stoop to the ultimate low but once agai I'm proved wrong. Recently, I have seen 3 that's takes balls to post and ask for money.

1. A band trip for a girl to go over seas to fulfill her dream. It got me thinking maybe I should start one claiming I need 20k to nail Kate upton.
2. A 15k pair of glasses to help a colorblind man see his kids in color. I understand it, but geez something's need to wait. Atleast he can still see his kids.
3. And the best for last. Some girl had started an account to raise money for her to get an apartment. She claims to be sober after 18months and she needs money for an apartment as well as money to live on. She's a huge drug addict trying to get custody of her kid. The day after she had raised 900 she had to turn herself in for probation and her account disappeared.

These take balls to start if it's not for a need rather than a want. My question, what's the worst feeble attempt of go fundme you have read, and have you ever donated?

I have a coworker that started one so she could buy a nice camera to become a professional photographer. She worked at Disney World as one of those people that take your picture when you walk in and she "fell in love" with it but shucks she just can't afford $1500 for a proper camera.

I've seen some shameful ones. I find it to be pretty deplorable unless it's to take care of a family's medical bills or if they lost their house or something. This BS to "live my dream" absolutely not.

The most deplorable one was from Kickstarter two years ago that took place at the church that I used to attend. The pastor's daughter is in her late 30s and led the worship team. She and her husband already got full-time salaries despite doing BS work that is considered a volunteer position everywhere else. Their kids got to go to private school as well.

Anyways, she asked the church for $32,000 to fund her music career to help make her own album and then a worship album and needed money for studio time, distribution and to pay musicians apparently. Anyways, she actually got it. Obviously couldn't sell it to anyone else except the people who already funded it. I spoke my concerns about this being basically an offering despite already paying her a salary and not a need that the church should support (since there are actual widows and orphans with basic needs not being met) and I suggested shouldn't she get a job like anyone else if she wants that extra cash? The pastor freaked out and we no longer go to church there. [laughing]

As for more shameful, I've seen boob jobs being asked for on there and a gay kid from Georgia who was 20 years old, got over $90k raised because his parents kicked him out of the house after they got into a huge verbal and physical confrontation. That's multiple years of salary for people.

I know a couple that is using it to fund their FOURTH ATTEMPT at in vitro fertilization. In the "FAQ" section of their page, they answer the (obvious) question of "Why not adoption?"

"We've prayed about this a lot and do not feel that adoption is God's plan for us at this time."

****ing Mormons, man.

(they had already raised like $8k when I clicked the link the first time)

They could easily adopt with that type of cash and I'd also say that maybe it is God's plan for you to adopt considering you can't get pregnant.

Just sums up the entitled mentality that the majority now have. Some people have no shame. I'm amazed at how many grown men 30-50 still have their parents pay their bills. It's pathetic. I have a sibling who still goes to my dad for help.

My issue with Kickstarter (correct me if I'm wrong) is that normally people are asking for handouts to start some sort of commercial venture (movie, singing, play, etc.) right? And they don't give the donors anything in return? (Am I right about that part?)

If Kickstarter was a way to allow people to invest and the recipients would be obliged to pay a return to investors (either similar to bonds or stock) then I'd say "Hey, it's great." If it's just a way to say, "I have a dream, you should pay for it but you won't get any return." Then, well, if people contribute to others- God Bless America.

I need a kickstarter for me to see one last motley crue concert. That is if they are still on tour.
I'd settle for a slaughter show. Not too picky.
Merry Christmas!

A woman from work said her sister did this and was asking for a trip to the Poconas because it would help her depression. Remarkably, she got more that enough money and went on the trip. Unreal.

Evangelists do it all the time.

After seeing first hand the financial abuse of SOME churches & pastor families, I refuse to give any money whatsoever to them. For a long time, it really damaged how I viewed a lot of things but I have realized that although it's rampant, it's not everyone that does it nor is it a reflection of the actual beliefs.

It's just garbage you'd expect from a politician. After seeing a pastor's family get full-time staff positions, European vacations, nice houses in SoCal, private school for their kids and a music album funded as well as clothing allowances and meals covered constantly, I realized what a joke tithing has become.

The idea of Kickstarter was to prepay for a product that someone had come up with. The capital would allow them to "kickstart" their operation, make products, and ship one to you for chipping in.

There are different donation levels and different giveaways for each level. But, in some cases, there is no giveaway, I guess.

If you donate money to one of these "causes" how long do you have to take back your money of at all? When do these people get their money?

A friend of a friend started one to raise funds to buy a car. Needless to say it raised zero dollars. You need a car save up enough for a down payment or just buy a junker to get around in. It's not that expensive to get a car loan.

there are legitimate uses for the site. I have a friend that had thyroid cancer. She was diagnosed in I believe November. Her insurance had a $5000 deductible and reset in January. So even though she had insurance, had a job, and her husband had a job her medical bills just suddenly overwhelmed her. I had zero issue with her using gofundme to pay her bills.

Yep. I honestly can't believe how pathetic it is and how churches have this "hero worship" of pastors and their families. There should be huge red flags when your preacher and his family is asking money from you and then seems to have an endless supply of vacations and material things and even better, doesn't disclose those finances upon request.

That is actually what happens at Calvary Chapels across the country.

The only reason you jackals don't like gofundme is because you haven't come up with a great idea to put on there to raise thousands in tax free money.
