I think he could have landed a better job, Arkansas is a HC purgatory. Maybe he can turn things around and find a better opportunity in 4-5 years.

On a side note if Kiffin takes the LSU job, UF may be screwed, Bhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Frank Broyles, Lou Holtz, Ken Hatfield, Houston Nutt and Bobby Petrino (Part 1) all say "Hello". It's only in the past 12-13 years that Arkansas has done nothing. I'd hate to see what outsiders say about our program. "HC purgatory" also?

Golesh is a VERY good hire by them. Going from Sam Pittman, who was a questionable hire from the get-go, to Golesh is a significant difference. He will win big. I just hope it's not in 2026 since we have to travel to there to play Arkansas.

Never had a 10 win season at USF. They are better than when he first arrived. His wife is from Arkansas too apparently.

True that in his 3 seasons there, he has yet to win 10 games in one season. But if they win their last game and a bowl, that will be 10.

He succeeded Brad Scott's son, Jeff, there. Scott won only 4 games in 3 years. Golesh has gone 7-6 and 7-6 there in his first 2 years. He is 8-3 thus far this season. I'd trade Beamer for Golesh in a skinny minute. And no, even if Beamer beats Clemson on Saturday, I'd still take Golesh over him. One game, even the rivalry game, comes nowhere near close to one-season.

Yep, Jeff was a disaster of a head coach like his dad.

Golesh is the equivalent of Billy Napier

As I have said many times: there is no guarantee of any hire working out. National championship coach Mack Brown was fired last year. James Franklin was fired this season. No one ever knows for sure how a hire will do. Here is what I do KNOW: I like the chances of a hire working out better by someone who has done it as a Head Coach than someone who has not done it as a Head Coach. Will Golesh get it done? I don't know. I do though like his chances better than I did Sam Pittman who was not even an Offensive or Defensive Coordinator, much less a Head Coach, when Arkansas made the head-scratching mistake of hiring him.

Cmon man. In the 2 years prior to his arrival USF went 4-29. USF was a complete dumpster fire.
His first 2 years he takes them to 2 straight bowls, and then went 22-15. An incredible job

I just read that on an Arkansas site about pros and cons. The hire doesn't affect me one way or another.

1)Jeez, You're going to compare 1958-1989 to the current coaching landscape, with portals and NIL. Arky has fallen behind, and with neighbors like Texas, Oklahoma, and LSU, the prospects of even catching up look bleak.

2) Unfortunately, I have heard and read outsiders refer to us as a purgatory, and worse.

No, no, no. I said only in the past 12-13 years (could be 15) has Arkansas been really poor. That includes the bad 6 years under Pittman.

Houston Nutt produced 2 Top 20 teams and 1 Top 15 team. Petrino produced 1 Top 15 team and 1 Top 5 team. So you can win there. And do you really think the Wal Mart people and other Arkansas corporations won't provide the money for NIL? They sure did pony up to lure Caliperi for basketball. Football means more to the Arkansas people than basketball does.

So why haven't they ?

I personally could not care less what Arkansas does with their program on a on going forward basis, but I just don't see Arkansas being a major player in this environment. They can reminisce about their past glories along with the good citizens from Nebraska.

NIL only came into existence a few years ago, while Pittman was in charge. I have no idea how much they have put up. I suspect that many of the money people there had little confidence in Pittman since he was neither an OC nor DC, much less a Head Coach, prior to his hire. Now they have a Head Coach who turned around the South Florida program from the disastrous Jeff Scott era. There is no doubt in my mind that they will be much better off with Golesh. At least he has had success as a Head Coach. Pittman did not. I know some here wanted him if we fired Beamer. Now I'm not saying they will win a national championship. But they did finish 12th and 5th in the nation as recent as 2010 and 2011. So the potential to be VERY competitive is there.
