what they heck happened to Tiger's back that he can't rehab it and get back in the game? Part of it has to be his mental game I would think.

Every time he has a bad round, he blames it on an injury. I've golfed for almost 50 years, and not once have I blamed a bad round on an injury. I can't even recall getting injured on the golf course, not counting falling drunk out of the cart a time or two.

To each his own so I'm not begrudging him trying to play if he wants but I can't understand why he even cares at this point. He's 41, way past his prime physically and he'll never be a shadow of what he was. And he's got a billion dollars or whatever and several decades yet to live and can do anything else he wants. This is like if Peyton Manning was still out there this year and next year and the year after that. Why do it?

WD from Dubai - back spasms
That sucks. My main man Freddy BOOM BOOM Couples was plagued by back problems. It can really be tough on the swing. Tiger used to train with Rangers I think (much to the dismay of his coach and father) when he was younger. I think a lot of his problems come from that. 41 ain't prime time for bombing the ball. I bet he still makes a run at another green jacket this year though

You'd think that maybe he could change his approach to playing the game. If he can't muscle the ball out there every time because of his back, then he'd have to find a different way to make things happen. Just hard to believe he's having all these back problems that can't be managed - maybe other golfers have had similar issues and I just haven't heard about it.

Couples had to lighten his schedule, he had massages after every round, had to withdraw if he felt any indication of a flare up, and still has issues today. I don't know, the back and neck are weird like that I guess

I think it's a couple of things:
1). Back is never the same after surgery.
2) those close to him say he still lifts weights 2 times a day, wants to look like hulk, and refuses to cut back in favor of more flexibility.
3) he has mental block now

Didn't Tiger used to get massages after round?

I've had back and neck problems that have kept me sidelined from golf also. I have definitely lost flexibility over the years and back issues have only made it worse. And you do think about it all the time when you're on the course hoping you don't overdo it and hurt yourself. It's a b*tch getting older.

you've got to remember that he has been swinging a golf club almost constantly since he was 2 years old. After a while, as we all know, it can and does affect your back. Having said that I feel, like another poster here, that it's mostly a mental block (every time he stands over a shot or putt he has images of a blonde coming at him with a 9 iron:D)...seriously I think his mind isn't right, and on today's tour it better be or you'll get mudholed

I had mechanical and mental golf issues that sidelined me from golf. I gave up years ago trying to play. I flat out sucked at playing golf......I tried several times but ended up giving away 3 or 4 sets of clubs. I really admire you folks that have golf skills. Tennis was much better for me.

The last time I played, I was one-over on the 6th fairway and tried to muscle a 7-iron 195 yards downhill in 60 degree weather. Hurt my elbow so bad I couldn't finish a swing after.

Tournament golf is far different than fun golf. My take on Tiger is that he continued to work out too hard, weights, working with the special forces( i heard navy seals). Playing in the open at torrey pines with a torn ACL adn broken tibia is not the way to take care of your body. I thought all along that flying for 17 hours with a bad back was not the smart thing to do. ( The European Tour allows for pay for showing up and I figure Tiger was getting 1.5 mill just to show). I would advise Tiger to pick where he plays based on weather norms. Play where it is most likely going to be nice until he gets use to playing again. He led the Hero tournament in birdies back in december. I've been lucky in that I've rarely had real problems but they do happen. One thing that would really help tiger is hitting fairways, it's easier to hit out of the short grass than the long stuff. he's never been the most accurate driver of the ball.

What is your best round? maybe you've never really had a great round. [winking] When I hit a bad shot, it's never my fault!

LOL, I rarely hit a bad shot, there's always something that happens to cause the ball to be errant; not me. [laughing]

Best I ever shot was 75, 3 over for the round. These days if I break 85 I'm happy, it's all relative. Did shoot 82 once at Pebble Beach, that was a great day!

Wind is so hard to play in down in Miami. I'm headed to play in the International Four ball net weekend at the Fox club in Palm city for two days and Mayacoo Lakes in west Palm on Sunday.

I've played Doral too, but it was a while back and I think they have done a major renovation since then. Don't remember what I shot, but I do remember playing the Blue Monster 1 over and felt pretty good about that. My putting sucked that day.
I have been very luck to have played some great courses around the country, mostly business golf, which is the best kind. Played Pebble Beach & Spanish Bay, Doral, TPC Sawgrass/Stadium, TPC Woodlands, TPC Four Seasons, Pinehurst #2, Pasetiempo and most of the Alabama RTJ Golf Trail.

No doubt the Company credit card (and the expense account with which it's associated) is THE best admission ticket to the game......not to mention the equally enjoyable drinks and subsequent dinner. Regrettably, that's no longer part of my life.....times (and bosses and companies) have changed for me since my own salad days of the 80s and 90s..... but they WERE some of the most enjoyable times of my life.

My own laundry list of notable tracks included Troon North, TPC's Michigan/Jasna Polana/Southwind/Twin Cities/Phoenix/The Canyons, and Blackwolf Run (River and Meadow Valleys).
