Definitely true. I hit the ball like a 10 handicap 50% of the time these days, but am able to stay somewhat down b/c I can get up and down from anywhere. Can't even count how many 74-76s I've shot the past few years hitting 5-6 greens. [eyeroll]

Not the prettiest or most fun way to play, but it gets the job done.

Trying to learn to enjoy (and be productive) hitting balls now that it's convenient, but it's still a struggle. Just not something I've ever done, whereas I can chip & putt for hours and enjoy it.

Actually, several years ago I told a teaching pro on the range where I was taking a "full swing" lesson that my goal was to get down to a solid single digit HCP. She turned and pointed at the practice green and short game area and said "If that is your goal, then you can't spend too much time over there". I try to remind myself of that every now and then, and remember to practice chipping and putting.
She told you not to spend too much time on the practice green?

I actually hit balls/practice to maintain my feel and truly dont really enjoy doing it, force myself to do it once in awhile. But chipping and putting with a buddy, cigar and a few drinks is always a great time. Would love to have something legit in my backyard to chip and putt on.

My new thing is pouring a Yeti of Bourbon, grabbing my jambox, and chipping/putting til dark after the last group passes through 13. Usually gives me a solid hour.

Not many places in the world more peaceful than the golf course in the last 30-40 minutes before dark on a random weekday, when there isn't a single person in sight.

Sweet setup you have there. 100% agree. Lucky to be a member of a private club so I absolutely love walking 9 by myself during the week a few hours before dark with a beer or mixed drink in the Yeti, Bluetooth speaker blasting, and playing different shots around the course. I'll put a ball is some of the worst places to see how creative I can get to save par.

If you played with the real golfers in Louisville, you'd know.

-Guy in our group (+2 ghin, for tub) owns the company 'Bluegrass Fairway' as a little side gig -- https://www.bluegrassfairway.com/

Pretty cool little site, seems like something wildcatadam would dig. Nice Leather & Canvas 'old school' unique golf stuff. GolfWrx named it one of it's top 10 IG follows in 2016, which was a nice little boon for him.

Helluva player...had some nice showings in the KY Open, among other things.

Tubby -- I was a member at Oxmoor for 4 years when I first got to Louisville. Then Wildwood for 4, Woodhaven for 5...and just recently bought house on South Park in October, so I'm here to stay for awhile it looks like. #CountryClubWhore

People love Oxmoor, the course. I hated it. Just didn't fit my eye for some reason. Went back out there hoping for some closure last summer in an Amateur Tour event...and confirmed all my feelings.

Also, if you've played at Oxmoor "a bunch," you should know that picture couldn't POSSIBLY be Oxmoor, (which is right in the middle of town) btw.

-Is the PM function extinct on here? Can't figure it out.

What irons are you all playing with? Been looking at the Apex Pro's and AP-2's, but some folks are trying to talk me into going with something with more forgiveness like the Apex CF-16 or AP1's. Currently have Mizuno MP-54's. Wonderful clubs but if I am having an off day they are punishing. If a scratch guy at my club checked his ego at the door and plays with Game Improvement clubs then I guess I can to.

That's a lot of rule changes. I'm fine with all of those. Never though it should be a penalty if you hit the ball and the ball hits you. Something has gone very wrong at that point and you have already suffered enough.

No sir, I think you misunderstood, what she said and meant was "you cannot spend enough time over there, if you want to shoot low scores"

Just broke 80 the other day at Champions only hitting 7 greens, but made two birdies on the 7 I hit, + got up and down 4 times in a 5 hole stretch. I'd say the lady knew what she was talking about.

But you still have to be a good ball striker to shoot low scores very often, which I am surely not . . .

M1, the leading driver on Tour (including the top 2 players in the world), is trash & Mizunos perform terribly? [laughing] Keep the hot takes coming.

Had the AP2's for a decade prior to going back to Mizuno last summer. Was time for a change.

Anyone ever hit PXG? Their marketing is brilliant, I'll give them that.

I'm a low single digit capper and play the Apex CF-16s. Love them. I'm not an equipment junkie by any means - I play what I hit the best and don't even try to understand all the club tech details - but I demo'd both and just felt the CF-16s were a better club for me. I tend to value forgiveness over the over stuff though.

Have hit them. Very good quality but performance wise no better than the leading products in the marketplace for much cheaper price. Its more of a status symbol than anything else.

I used to play TM drivers all the time, until I bought the Sldr. Literally could not find the sweet spot but "maybe" twice a round, to save my life. Finally gave up and bought the Cobra F6, because all the reviews said it was one of the most forgiving on the market. Like it MUCH better . . .

How to drop a ball

New rule: The only requirement is for the player to hold the ball above the ground without it touching any growing thing or other natural or artificial object, and let it go so that it falls through the air before coming to rest; to avoid any doubt, it is recommended that the ball be dropped from at least one inch above the ground or any growing thing or object.

Current rule: Stand erect, hold the ball at shoulder height and arm’s length.

Wow

Pretty much like them all, except the new dropping rule, sounds like you can just pick it up and almost place it in a perfect lie.

Have NEVER understood the loose impediment rule in bunkers. So long as you are not improving your lie, what is wrong with picking up rocks, stones, and sticks out of the bunker, even before you play your shot? Now I suppose if your ball is laying right next to a stick in a bunker, you are still screwed, because if you move the stick and it moves your ball, it is still a penalty.

Im ok with it, you are already getting a penalty, and it takes some luck factor out of the drop, whether it be good or bad. Will have to get used to people squatting to take a drop.

Oh, and i LOVE the rule about no caddy behind the players. Hate seeing that on LPGA tour every shot, hell i dont think ive ever seen any caddy step in and stop an alignment that i can recall.

Allowing Range Finders? Pretty sure that's not going to help the pace of play on Tour.

Can picture Spieth taking 2 minutes scoping now. :weary:

Mine arrived yesterday. $179 w/ slope.

I need a range finder but usually just mooch off someone playing with me. That being said I wouldn't use it as much as other guys do. If I'm 75 in or so I'm not bothering to use it anyway.
