Leaning toward the new Callaway Epic driver. Anyone buy one of these yet? Or anything else I should consider?

Right fit and shaft and anything should be decent ... I got the TM RocketballZ a couple years ago and really like it. The only thing I don't like is that I can't really fade the ball with it, but I'm getting a lot better distance and more consistency than before

The Epic is an outstanding driver. I tested it and loved it as I always have with Callaway drivers and fairway woods. In recent years, I have become a big fan of Ping drivers and Fairway woods. I have a G25 driver which is a couple of models back and a G 3 wood which is current. Love them both. Both the Ping G series and the Epic are very similar in my viewpoint.

Titlest....I'll probably never get another
I had a Titleist for years before my Ping G25. It was a great driver and actually longer than the Ping. But the sweet spot on Titleist is smaller than Ping and Callaway as they are more forgiving. So, if you are not a golfer that can return the club to the ball very consistently, Titleist may not be the perfect one.

Both Golf and Golf Digest have put out their club testing issues in recent months and I am besically repeating what is also said in those reviews. My experiences pretty much align exactly.

I appreciate the advice above. My friend is a Top 100 fitter (I think Golf Digest) and will be doing my fitting, so I should be in pretty good hands.

My son's golf coach is a big fan of Titleist drivers, but he's a professional and is a very good ball striker. He also told me it wouldn't be a good fit for me. Ha ha.

Be open-minded. Looks and feel are important but use the data (assuming you'll be on Trackman). The driver that gives you the best overall distance (carry plus roll) and/or lowest spin rate is key. Usually it will be the same driven that gives the best of both. Knock yourself out. And if you get tired, break the fitting up into two sessions. You want to be fresh since you'll probably be hitting a lot of balls.

Yeah, that's a good point. I haven't been able to play or practice much the last month between sickness, soccer tournaments, and weather.

I did this with a number of drivers when I got my TM RocketballZ. Dick's didn't have Ping, but they had almost everything else. So, I had to go to a couple different places to cover everything. IIRC the RocketballZ was within a yard or two of the Ping but the Ping was $50-$100 more, so the difference wasn't significant enough to warrant the extra money.

I played a Maxfli persimmon wood prior to Titlest....the pro that taught me made me play with it and blades, so I wasn't "spoiled" by new technology....after laying 20-40 yards behind my playing partners for years....I'm now rightly spoiled

GEtting fitted is the key. I hope they have several for you to try. I have the M2 with stck stiff shaft, dritac midsize grip. The M2 three wood is the best I've ever used.
