Is it petty of me to cheer not only for Texas Tech to win, but also for the Zags to somehow get jobbed by the refs in the final minutes?

I keep thinking back to Collins blocking that shot through the rim which stymied our comeback for the Sweet 16 bid. Given that was the last high point for this program, I wouldn’t mind karma helping to send them back to Washington.

At least we have the WBB to cheer for in the postseason...

Man, college refs are awful. There were potentially two blown calls:

1) #11 for Texas Tech blocked a three point shot, clearly stepped out of bounds while recovering it, and passed it back to a teammate who I think was fouled. It should have been Zag possession
2) I’m not 100% sure this should have been blown dead as it wasn’t intentional, but when the TT guard was bringing the ball up and dribbling through some Zag defenders one of them kicked the ball. However the refs didn’t blow the whistle, the Zags recovered it and hit a 3 to get within two with twenty seconds left

But Texas Tech wins, and karma may have intervened on that first missed call. I can’t stand the poor officiating at the college level, especially in a game that decides a trip to the final four. Nice job Red Raiders.

The kick no-call was right.

If we keep saying officials are terrible, we’ll keep getting more video reviews.

Refs are fine. Basketball is tough to call.

And video reviews in basketball are the absolute worst.

I’ve been watching a lot of NBA basketball this season, and college refs are awful compared to them. Video replays should absolutely be allowed, particularly in the closing minutes of the game as so many crucial calls can be missed.

And this isn’t a recent phenomena... I understand why the lower conferences would allow worse officiating due to budget constraints, but the power 5 conferences and certainly the Tournament can afford better refs and video replay.

Of course there have been straight up blunders that skew my opinion, replay or not. I’m still salty about the year we were just on the cusp of the tournament and battling a ranked OSU late in the season. Jared Sullinger angrily threw the ball into the crowd late in the game as he didn’t like a call, and miraculously wasn’t given a technical foul. Had he been rightfully T’d up, we probably would have won the game and had a much better shot at dancing.

Hopefully Delaney’s successor cleans this up. In Phillips I trust.
