Good read from the Daily Northwestern

Really feels like an all-or-nothing situation. The recruits have the tone of curious onlookers, not necessarily guys ready to go ahead and commit.

“There’s definitely talk” seems fair. It remains to be seen if that talk turns into action. It’ll have to start with PBJ or Christie, probably. If so, look out.

I can’t allow myself to believe this, or else it’ll be extra painful when the hat dances end with Duke or Kentucky or whatever. But if they really do want to make a splash with a joint commitment, they WILL bring in other blue chippers...and we will be in for the most exciting ride in NU history. An earthquake. Packed houses. Unprecedented talent.

Nope, nope, nope. Can’t let myself go there. But gents: please?

It sounds real. Finally, the stars align for us. These aren’t just random stars where Collins has to do the sales job of the century. These are kids with real NU connections. PBJ and Christie grew up fans, grew up fricking ball boys. Probably dreamed of draining that last second shot to win the Final Four for the Purple. Goode’s cousin TJ plays here (Damn you Ben Skowronek!). Bates is friends and teammates with Ty Berry. Dare we get our hopes up? They are seriously considering this. A Package deal. We are due. We have gone through so much as NU fans, this has to happen for us.

Man, if this happens, it will be a huge story. Fab 5 big. After all these years, everyone stil remembers the Fab Five. Even Jimmy King and Ray Jackson. It would be bigger than the Fab 5 because this is NU. This would be Wheaties Box big. They could make NU Chicago’s team truly, like the Barnett Wildcats were, with a Final Four run. They would be legends, forever remembered and revered. As opposed to many of those 4 and 5 star players who ended up at Kentucky or Duke and you can’t recall who they were or what they did.

Please let this happen. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE

I so want to believe this is not a fluff piece. And that there's actually a decent chance this can happen.

It would be nice, but it does take that first guy to take the plunge as they mention in the article. If one of these kids ended up at someplace like North Cheatolina it would be a real blow.

Just a word of caution, even if the unthinkable were to happen and NU landed two five stars: Missouri thought it had found a "miracle solution" to its problems when it hired the Porter family. A couple of season-ending injuries later, they are back where they started from.

Northwestern won’t be able to sign all of these players –– there wouldn’t be enough available scholarships. But if the Wildcats could sign three or four...
Where do we get room for even three or four? by my count, we'll have two open scholarships for 2021. I guess we could be figuring that Gaines would grad transfer or that a player or two will bail, but as much as I'd love to see 3-4 four-stars join the team, I don't feel comfortable with Collins pushing anyone out.

Georgia, with the 2019 No. 1 recruit and likely No. 1 draft pick, is almost as bad as NU this year...

Georgia has played 12 of 15 conference games against teams rated Kenpom #37 or worse, and has gone 4-8 against them. We have played 1 of 16 conference games against teams rated #37 or worse and are 1-0. Flip the schedules and we aren't 1-15.

And Crean's team has a one and done NBA star on that team! Big underachievement.
