No doubt Texas will be back at some point (maybe not under Charlie Strong), but it's really interesting that Baylor, TCU, and even Houston are beating the Longhorns in recruiting this year. I guess it goes to show that recent success can be more important than facilities and tradition.
You hit on something that many on this board don't get. It is easy to say recruits should come here because "we are Nebraska". But that doesn't work anymore. Texas is a good example of a "have everything including past success" team and now the up and coming teams like Houston, TCU and Baylor are now beating them with recruits. The bottom line conclusion is winning. Winning begets better recruiting and more winning. Funny how that all works. Until we consistently, 2-4 years, play top notch ball and play in some championship games, we can expect the continued struggle to get recruits we want.
Strong has a much different recruiting philosophy than Mack Brown. Mack would get kids to commit super early and fill his recruiting classes before most of the kids were even done developing - leaving a lot of very good prospects and "late-bloomers" for the other schools to poach. With the amount of talent in Texas high schools, some very good players don't get a chance to start until their senior years.
Strong seems to be rolling the dice and holding out for the big-time recruits that wait until signing day. We'll see if it pays off.

I always thought that Brown getting 22 kids to commit on Junior Day was a mistake as well.
