Realistically that’s the only aspect besides compensation. And compensation is somewhat secondary.

No.. smart move would be to play the market.. you cannot just go begging to Nike. You may want Nike.. but Nike would know that and any deal would be pathetic. Play hard-to-get the like Nike getting Rutgers would have some value to them. And that starts with talking to others.. even Adidas and New Balance and Underarmor etc.. but first.. get the players on board, especially the key players.. because that is who wears the gear.

Nike is stale.
Their men's shoes were never that aesthetically appealing outside the urban crowd.
The women's were nicer but now Hoka is getting the women.

Largest media market in the country, Nike would be crazy to not jump back on board.

Adidas hired a new CEO last year who is making a huge push into basketball. The company moved its US headquarters from Portland to Los Angeles because Adidas views LA as the "heartland of basketball culture."

Last week, Adidas's CEO stated, "I really, really can promise you that investment in basketball, both from a product development and the visibility with players are increasing." The stock has risen 30% in the past year, versus a 24% decline for Nike.

I expect Adidas to make a big push to retain the Rutgers relationship.
