So my dam phone went haywire out here in Denver on vacation Saturday. Verizon with replace it but I have to mail it to them and I had to have a dam phone since I don't fly back till tomorrow.

Had to buy a phone ( Google Pixel ) but was planning on returning it once back in Cincinnati.

But I apparently have a upgrade December 23th.

Anyone know anything about this phone? I was not in the market and didn't even Google had a phone.

Any help is always appreciated and so is insults.

I haven't researched that phone yet, but with it being a Google branded phone it likely will get the first updates every time. I have a Nexus 7 tablet I bought 3 years ago and it is still going strong and it is a Google branded tablet. So I would imagine it is a quality product.

A lot of fellow IT people became disenfranchised with Samsung lately.. A big reason being the phone explosion thing.. So quite a few paid off their Samsung phones and went for a Pixel. So far, almost all are still back-ordered.

Also, Android made encryption standard back in like 4.2 or something.. So Samsung's edge in the corporate field and security isn't there anymore.

Can't go wrong the the company who makes the software. I may give them a shot when I'm up (phone is on a business contract).

We are a family of iPhones...but we just added a 4th line for whatever and we got a free LGv20. Thing is fast and smooth once you learn to use it.

I'm on the 6+, but would have no qualms moving over and using this phone.., has a stylus too.

By the way I am using a Galaxy S7 (got it free) and it has worked well. I'm just not a huge fan of the Samsung software on Android. It seems every phone has something good about them, but unfortunately, none have all the best options.

HTC has the word wrap (where it reformats web pages that are meant for desktops so all the words are on the screen and you don't have to scroll side to side to read them). They use to come with the nice speakers on the front, but I think they stopped that.

LG has the knock on screen feature to turn the phone on, laser focus for camera, and the controls on the back.

I think Samsung really only has a better camera then the others, but not much else that separates it from the other brands.

The only big brand I haven't owned is Motorola. I think their big feature is the accessories that can be added to their phone.

I don't know if the Pixel has any big feature unique to it besides the personal assistant, but it sounds like the same thing you get when doing a search with the microphone on any Android phone.

Two of those three LG features are available on Pixel Phones. Recent software update added the double tap to wake.

Pixel Phone has the best smartphone camera on the market other than maybe the iPhone 7 Plus because of the dual lenses.

Assistant is supposed to be capable of more than Google Now but I don't really care for any for the voice stuff other than basics so not really familiar with it.

Pixel is the first official Daydream compatible phone. Daydream is Google's official VR viewer. Supposed to be pretty awesome from what I have heard.

Motorola is nice but I'm leary of their products going forward since Lenovo bought them and Lenovo is a **** tier OEM.

If I stick with Android, I will never buy a non-Google phone. The others just aren't worth the negatives.

I have the Samsung Gear VR (was free with phone) and right now it is just a gimmick. There isn't enough good content to make it worth having. It also draws so much power from the phone that the phone gets very hot. I would imagine the Google version will be no better. The kind built for computers like the Oculus Rift could be interesting for gaming in the future, but those cost a whole lot more. It would be pretty cool to play a game like Call of Duty in VR.

The Daydream is actually fairly fundamentally different from the Gear VR from what I understand. The Gear VR is just a glorified Google Cardboard viewer. Daydream is like a VR platform now. Potential for VR games is a whole lot higher now because of the included controller. Takes the level of interactivity to a whole new level. Think like a Nintendo Wii but as VR for the level of interactivity that is potentially possible. Not a whole lot of games are available but the selection keeps growing. Games, videos, 360 degree photos and videos, 3D videos, street level maps, etc.

I have a Nexus 6 which is the old pixel kind of sort of. I love it. The Google branded Android phones are the best because the run Google stuff, not the manufacturer stuff. Example on a Samsung Android product, the default browser is not Chrome. That's stupid imo. They take the Android OS and mess it up with their crappy apps.

Coworker and I both got a Samsung S7 and the VR bricked both our phones about 12 hours apart from each other.

I thought it was cool, definitely a great thing to bring to a party.. but otherwise.. yeah no content. Honestly, VR as a whole I feel like needs more content. That's another story.
