I think it is a great idea. Hopefully, some would relocated to WV. They need to get out of the bubble and live with average Americans.
DIdn't Byrd get blasted for doing this a couple of decades ago? Of course, Byrd was looking to move them to WV only, so that's part of the reason he was given so much grief. He was successful in moving part of the FBI CJIS services to WV, but he also had a fairly significant CIA contingent moving to Jefferson County and some scientific operations moving to Greenbank. Those last 2 got cut when the GOP took control of the Senate in 1995.

I'm not opposed to the idea of moving some of these things out of DC. You can make a lot of good arguments for doing that. Look at the impact CJIS has had on the economy in central WV. That happens, and the federal labor costs go down because the wage they pay outside of DC is lower - assuming they aren't talking about moving stuff to NYC or southern CA. I'm not sure that it's the government employee that's out of touch with the average American though. I think that's more about the administrative folks - mostly the elected officials and political appointees - that are out of touch with the average American. Then you have the people who live in NYC who have preconceived notions about what a WVian is. As a WVian, I definitely had a preconceived notion of what at New Yorker was too. This doesn't address that situation. I'm not sure how you address that though.
