Does anyone know if Sidney Gopre is still on the radar of our current staff?

I thought he was working on his grades at a prep school but was scheduled to come to RU sometime next year

Led the team in TFL's and Int's. 2nd in Tackles. Given RU's history with JUCO's It would seem to be a crap shoot whether he'll ever end up here.

Thanks for the info guys. I was just curious because with all the talk about recruits from the flood era I never saw his name.

I hope this kid gets a shot, coming out of Newark these kids get so little help and guidance. His biggest problem out of HS was course work & SATs which he hoped to clear at Prep school, I believe he got his SAT score but still had course work issues and finally decided the best way deal with the issue was to get his Associates degree.

We will see Gopre at RU next year. He has stayed the course and is doing exactly what he needs to do in order to get here. I'm rooting like hell for him.

With his lack of grades i doubt he's a fit for the Ash culture.
You think we're only taking kids with excellent grades? Give me a break. A kid with marginal or even weak grades who works hard to improve and gets his grades up to the minimum acceptable level should be and will be accepted with open arms, just like at most programs. Some of these kids come from terrible neighborhoods with terrible schools and that shouldn't be held against them. In the right environment, some of them will shine.

Has the current staff been in contact with him?

I'll find out what I can, but the Gopre situation goes beyond just our coaching staff.. Our athletic administration needs to see this through and be a champion for the kid. If we can show that as a university and as an athletic program that we will not give up on our inner city kids/recruits and we will not turn our back on them, it will go a long way towards connecting our cities with the state university.

RU needs to see this through. If we can make the Gopre situation a successful one, there is potential for a really strong pipeline to our inner city athletes. Gopre could solidify newark recruiting for the next decade.

So, I will return to my original question in the original post. Does anyone know, or has anyone heard, if our current staff still has Gopre on the radar. Have they spoken to him? Has he tweeter about a meeting? Has a coach tweeter about any contact? Has todderick written about it? I have neither heard nor seen anything.

ruready07, I completely agree. One of the few areas that has me concerned when a program has the complete turnover in staff like the RU football coaches just experienced is whether Ash and company are aware of Gopre's situation?

If this guy goes through every bit of due diligence he has been asked to do and has continued to grow as a,player then Ash would be silly not to pursue a 20 or 21 year old mature athlete ,the kind BYU gets.

The mods have repeatedly said do not expect Gopre to ever wear scarlet. I don't know if that is based on knowledge of this specific situation, or simply that it is extremely rare for a JUCO to go back to his school of original signing. Two years is a long time. One side or the other generally decides to move on.

And that was with the Flood staff and before the off field issues.

If he buckled down and does show up i'll be his biggest fan and supporter...it will show me his determination and commitment to the program and not just a coach....
