And Oweh has skills Reeves does not possess. They aren’t saying Oweh will turn into a guy who can score at all 3 levels like Reeves developed into. They’re just saying he can come back and take a huge step in a different way.

And if Brea had Oweh’s athletic gifts he’d be playing for the Pistons right now.

Shooting is a skill. Honed and developed over years and years of training but there is also a natural element to it. Some guys just have “ it” and build on that. Reeves had that and expanded his game.

I don’t think Oweh will ever develop any sort of ability to be anything but a mediocre three point shooter unless he spends a couple of years of reworking his shot. But ask MKG how that one goes.

And learn how to finish in the off-season
This. If he improves in regards will be in great shape. I was really expecting him to have more success tonight, but man, that Tennessee defense is something else.
Pope could stand to learn a thing or two in respect. We have got to improve there next year.
I seen Carr doing a lot of pushing tonight and this year instead of being physical and shutting guys down. I seen Oweh doing a lot of jersey grabbing instead of getting down and staying in front of his man. Guys need to fight over screens better, too. Just a lot of improvements need to be made on D in general.
Tennessee just seemed to be refused to be screened. Lots of room for improvement there too, but I think our Coach can get it done.

Would not overspend on Oweh
He’s not a good finisher at the rim - handle is SUS - shot form is busted
If he wants a ransom let him walk
We can get as good in portal
If his price is fair sign him but hopefully he gets individual instruction like Pitino provided
Not a good finisher at the rim? Oklahoma disagrees

Of course, we know Seniors can’t return, Sherlock.

I’ll keep our 2 KY kids. Both have a great work ethic. I’m not ready to throw the all time leading scorer in KHSAA history to the wind. If they don’t improve, they bleed blue and will be find end of the bench pieces
Like having ky kids too, but you can't play in the major league with minor league players

The only ones eligible to return are Oweh, the three freshman and Garrison.

Two of the freshman can’t play at this level and look to be already recruited over. Oweh I think you might as well flip a coin at this point imho. Garrison probably will chase some money if the market gets insane.
I think Noah could definitely get there with more time.

Sometimes I think it’s really hard to understand the mindset of athletes for some people. Especially the ones with true athletic gifts who have the one goal of being professionals and getting paid.

I’ve worked with a couple of pro athletes in my time. This is anecdotal but every one had two things in common: extremely driven and extremely confident.

We signed kid from the portal today and his first words were basically “I want to play in the NBA”.
They are getting paid.

We should want all the ones that can come back. This isn't Cal anymore where he chases them out the door. As we have seen this year, we need all the players we can because of injuries. Plus practice to get each other better. Let the Fr stay all 4 years and finally have a true Sr day. If they are willing to stay and work. Let them stay.

Oweh is a great contributor but if he decides not to come back, it won’t make us or break us.
What makes you think it wouldn’t hurt UK in a major way if he splits? Seriously. Pope hasn’t exactly proven himself as an elite recruiter. Matter of fact he hasn’t landed any of the big fish that he has pursued. His most touted recruits have been in state kids (low hanging fruit).

We simply MUST get OO back in order to contend next year. Because until pope starts closing on some elite talent then we will have to retain the elite players we have now.

The Tennessee defense wasn't that great, lol. We just didn't run more than Amari and BG taking turns out on top handing the ball off. Very few screens were set. Rebounding effort was for the most part, awful. The team was, once again, not prepared for the game. We could have won this game.

Eh. Lol.

This game really left a bad taste in my mouth. Oweh can be a 3rd option, 2nd option at best next year, if that suits him.. but like the rest of the roster this year, he was given the keys to a car he shouldn't be driving.
We see that most of the best teams have good returning players they build around. We need him back to build around. But I agree, if he’s your best player you’re not winning the national championship.

Don't understand for the life of me people who would speak poorly of OO. The kid has crazy heart, was in double figures nearly every game.

One or two of you are talking about him like some reckless bull taking thoughtless shots - we've had plenty of those in the past. Oweh's FG% for the season was around 50, which is outstanding for a guard.

He forced the issue a little tonight because NOBODY ELSE COULD SCORE besides Lamont and Amari.

Terrible takes. Of course you want OO back. He could easily be a top 2-3 player on a F4 team.

Bro, I don't know what game you watched but they did indeed play some excellent defense.
They are ranked #3 defensively for a reason.
They are #1 in some categories.

Some fans are so mad about the way we lost tonight they’re spewing ignorant rhetoric and lashing out at everyone.

Anyone who wouldn't want Oweh back is a moron. Returning an all conference player would be huge for next year’s team.

Oweh struggled against top competition. He has a hitch in his jumper. He can’t finish. He has loose handles.

I want Oweh back IF he understands he’s not our entire offense. Guy is great when he plays within the offense, but hurts the team if he tries to be THE offense. He’s just not talented enough to demand the ball every possession.
Unless he's playing Oklahoma.

WHY in the world wouldn't he come back?????

Coming to UK and playing for Coach Pope gave him MORE exposure AND was used in a system that highlighted his biggest assets.
Love your Avatar! Josh Allen is my favorite Defender of all time and happens to play for my Jaguars!! Sorry to reply with something other than topic.

Not a bro, lol. The point I was making is this game was very winnable. Our heads were quite often not in the game, and Pope did a poor job of not making adjustments. The fight just wasn't there. I stand corrected, yes their defense is good.

Would love to have him back but needs to work on his handle.
He also needs to learn to pass when it’s the best play. I like his determination to get to the rim (and miss the layup many times), but he rarely passes to the open man when he drives. He makes way too many turnovers. Hope he improves in those areas.

And was our most dependable player and possible our leading scorer ( I don’t want to look it up). If you can’t trade up then obviously you are trading down. As of now I don’t see anyone coming in that usurps him. If he returns he will be the centerpiece of the team next year.

It’s almost like you guys think we can sprinkle pixie dust and elite talent will just show up out of nowhere. We can’t automatically expect that. Cal gave us that but he’s no longer here. As a fanbase we have to adjust.

OO is the most important recruit on the board for pope.

He could have the Reeves progression. I felt, like Reeves, we needed him to try to be a savior every game, but was not quite there yet. But, come back that next year and the every game magic can happen.
I think the only progression Reeves saw was his coach not jerking him around. It was obvious after the Tennessee road game his junior season, Reeves was a dude. Oweh isn’t that. He doesn’t shoot it nearly as well (and won’t ever) and he’s not nearly the finisher Reeves was. He’s a better rebound and he’s better defensively. Just a different player. Just like I said last offseason with this current team, I’ll say about next years team. Just replace the words Jaxon Robinson with Otega Oweh. Otega Oweh can’t be the best player on a great team. If he’s your best player, your team isn’t going to be in the conversation of the best of the best. No knock on him. Love his game and what he gives.

Elite talent is one and done.
No thanks.
That ship has hopefully sailed forever.
Building a cohesive team sounds better to me.
The amount of one year players here over the last several years that I can actually remember is small.
That is not fun.

Who gives a crap what someone did n high school. If we had the all time TN leading scorer would you drop it into convo so much? I doubt it. High school success has 0 relevance to college success. If you didn't learn that from cals era, idk what u did learn.

I agree they should be on the team but pray we aren't relying on them as much next season.
