I’m not disrespecting Murphy they are a fantastic hard nosed physical running team. But to think they have elite speed is ludicrous accept what they are.

Lol no, just no. Mount Airy had 4 guys: Donovan Greene, Jonathan Smith, Ian Holder and Jeremiah Rosser faster than anyone on your team besides Gosnell.

I watched all 3 state title games at NC State last year and Tarboro and Reidsvill were fairly even talent wise but Tarboro would have never kept up with Raidsville spread offense.Who's to say Tarboro couldn't beat Reidsville as well? I think Tarboro is still the favorite.

It would have been a hell of a game last year. The sentiment last year was to beat reidsville last season, because Reidsville has a lot of talent this year and next season back.
I don't intend to take away from East Surry or Reidsville. Alot of us in the east see Tarboro and Northeastern in the same mold so to speak. Similar style offense, defense, and athletes. Was just talking on the 2A thread how great a game NE and Tarboro would be. Neither of those teams rely on offense. Defense is king on those teams. In the 2A championship I felt NE wasn't quite ready for the big stage. Reidsville had alot of experience in that game and they did what champions do. Find a way to win. Tarboro hasn't had to find a way to win. They are well schooled in that aspect of the game. Rocky Mount 3A week 1 will tell alot about what they have against high power offense.

I sure wouldn't overlook Swain, esp come playoff time. If there was a team that could knock off East Surry, imo they could do it. As far as the talk about Murphy, i think the scoreboard read Murphy 49 ES 27 in 2017. It was nothing less than a beatdown. Im not disputing ES may have a very good team this season, but acting like ES would run Murphy off the field is silly.
I remember that game well. Players were throwing their helmets and cursing on and off the field out of frustration from being slobber-knocked. I think the reaction during that game by players and the inability of the coach to control them ultimately cost him his job.
Arrogance is elevating a team with basically no history to the highest peak based on the return of two players, who thought so little of the program they left in the first place.
Just for the record - ‘17 Mount Airy was better and more athletic than ‘18 East Surry and it wasn’t even close.
I watched this game and East Surry had 5 players ejected yes there was no control. Ive talked to several players from that team, that was a show of built up frustration with the coaching staff from throughout the season finally spilling out from what I could gather. Also I’ve watched a lot of football and I do not think that I’ve ever seen an ejection ratio of 5:0 kids typically don’t act like that without being provoked favorites were definitely played.
The 2017 ES team had some internal issues that never let them maximize their talent. That being said, Murphy was clearly superior to ES that year (and it showed in the playoffs). The 2018 and 2019 Cards were/are better than the 2017 ES team. Does that mean they are the best team in the West? Who knows. It could be ES but it could also be Murphy, Swain, Starmount, etc. I do think that ES can compete with anyone in the 1A or 1AA West. During the playoffs, execution is just as important as talent, so if they match up with another strong team it’ll be the team who executes better that comes out on top. Anyone who thinks ES is unstoppable in the West is too arrogant. Those 1-2 who keep posting in that manner don’t represent all of the ES faithful. I’m sure the Cards would love to have another opportunity to face Tarboro. Whether they could beat them or not, I don’t know. However I do think they would have a better showing with another year of experience under their belts if they were fortunate enough to meet them again down the line.

There’s excitement and optimism around the ES community thanks to solid efforts in numerous sports over the past couple of years (I think the school finished 2nd or 3rd in the 1A Wells Fargo Cup last year for best total athletic program). The senior class, as a whole, is as athletic a total group as any to come through in some time. They had great success in Football, Baseball, Golf, Women’s Basketball, Volleyball, Swimming, and Track last year (they held their own in basketball against perennial State powers WS Prep and Bishop). Add to that some promising athletes in the other classes and you can understand the optimism around the community. Of course, some folks take that to the extreme and it comes off as arrogance. Most Cards aren’t that way. Some of us older posters know if you talk too much junk, it will eventually come back and bite you in the rear.
I agree Mr Howerin the same thing was said by North Stanly with 5D1 recruits who were shut out completely ya Tarboro . Now I will give props to those who have earned collegiate scholarships especially in regards to Steven Gosnell I believe he is the most legit D1 on East Surrys team. Unless Boaz has time to through the ball Gossnell will be held to much lesser yards and no TDs. From what I’m hearing this years Tarboro team is the fastest Tarboro team in a whole lot of years and if that’s true someone better look out
ESODcards I make this post for the majority of the Cardinal fans that still come on here. Please shut up making us look like something stupid. If a tenth of what you say on here was even remotely close to what was actually happening in and around the team it might be alright. Until we year after year beat the best teams in the state then we can crow a little bit. We are not at that level yet. Yes we have some hard working men that I'd put up against anyone in the state. Until we perform year in and year out in the playoffs when it really matters, shut up. Yeah I know you have the right to be a keyboard cowboy and say whatever. I also feel the need to apologize for your ridiculous comments over the past months and let everyone know that he isn't speaking for all of Pilot Mtn. Best of luck to everyone when the season gets started. Can't wait to see our guys get after it in a couple weeks.
