Urlacher had a rare combination of speed and size, but he was like a big kid out there, always having fun. Singletary had that bug-eyed intensity, but underneath it all he was a decent, church-going man, the consummate gentleman. Butkus, by comparison, was pure ferocity. A mean, nasty brute of a man, his mission was not to win but to kill, not to tackle but destroy. If his aggressiveness hadn't found an outlet in football, he probably would have been in jail. On Sundays, the animal was uncaged.

So true on everything you said. Great player. Unfortunately his style of play would struggle in today’s football with all the rule changes. Butkus played in a era that allowed nasty play. Today’s football with protecting the QB’s, targeting etc Butkus would of been like a caged tiger!
