As bad as I hate working in a steel mill, well any mill , I may maybe heading there to work.
Would rather work in a steel mill over a semiconductor plant

I would advise good welders to be looking out for the ship building jobs that are coming. I don't see either place you mentioned hiring any welders?

Fck shipbuilding pay sucks . That would be my last resort. Worked at the shipyard years ago and left for a nasty *** paper mill.
Semiconductor plants is hiring welders in Columbus daily . If they are putting 14 billion into us steel they will most definitely hire welders by the handfuls.

That's weird. I knew welders that made top pay working on building ships and submarines. Don't know anything about orbital welding semiconductors.

I did the shipbuilding in my apprenticeship when work was slow in the pipetrade. Most of the welding is mig and that dont pay much . Its a living and a good one if you work massive ot. Some contractors do piece mill pay ,again not bad if they have good fitters and the welding machines aren't junk.
Any monkey who can program a machine can orbital weld but the pay is good in most areas we generally dont call that welding.
I learned it because for awhile in the VA area they was building semiconductor plants .

Underwater Welders are going to be in demand in the coming years. If a 18 year old who likes travel and adventure and wanted to learn the skill I would point him to the Navy for one enlistment. Do your four years. Lots of opportunities will open up after that.

They make bank that's for sure .
When I was younger was excepted in the classes for it but I'm not into diving. I already had several welding procedures under my belt so they let me weld semi submerged with the rod and it didn't weld much different.

I know guys that took the route I recommend. They did an enlistment learning the trade letting the Navy teach them. Then they got to work all over the world. Tax free opportunities making 150,000 plus a year once they got really good at it. They would bank most of that and live of the rest. Once they got older due to the fact it's harder on their bodies they switched to teaching, QA and supervising roles.

If you are young, want to be a welder, and travel the world. It's a good path for someone with that mindset.

You called yourself a Communist/Socialist in other threads. But like I said numerous times. The Neo-Marxist and Neo-Nazis are working together. They even work with the Islamic Jihadist.

Pals with neo-Nazis

One of the people Crooks interacted with online was “Willy Tepes,” a member of Norwegian neo-Nazi group the Nordic Resistance Movement, which has since been designated a terrorist organization by the State Department.

Tepes encouraged violence and Crooks’ extremism, using a Maoist phrase, “Political power comes from the barrel of a gun,” which Crooks repeated several times.

In one comment on Oct. 5, 2025, more than a year after Butler, Tepes commented to another user that he had been contacted by both Russian and American intelligence.

Just NOW, the FBI arrested Judge Hannah Dugan out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin on charges of obstruction — after evidence of Judge Dugan obstructing an immigration arrest operation last week.We believe Judge Dugan intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse, Eduardo Flores Ruiz, allowing the subject — an illegal alien — to evade arrest. Thankfully, our agents chased down the perp on foot and he’s been in custody since, but the Judge’s obstruction created increased danger to the public. We will have more to share soon. Excellent work
