We have AT&T cell phone service. Looking to get my 12 year old a watch where we can track him and he can text and or call us. Do not want him to have any other abilities with it like internet 😁. Not looking for crazy expensive one. Recommendations on a watch? If I get a compatible watch, I think I saw we would need to add it to our AT&T plan for it to work? Thinking I saw $10 per month?

Best Buy might be a good resource to talk to for options. They have a pretty big selection I think. Good luck!!

Apple watches with cell service would work. Internet is possible, but there is such a limited screen and the apps are so bad, you wouldn’t need to worry about anything.

Personally, I’d go with a small iphone and make clear the expectations of it.

Follow up. I’m guessing you’ve got a pretty good kid given your involvement in his education (yes, that’s a compliment) so the phone could be somewhat used as a reward as in if he uses it correctly he would be allowed more freedom with it.

The Apple Watch SE is the cheaper model but would do anything he needs such as calls, text and listen to music with Bluetooth earbuds.

This is what we did for our 12yo to be able to coordinate, practices etc….the one that is independent of a phone. Just not ready to go the phone route and the watch has been a good success….he can text, weather etc.

My hen and her hens made a pact to make it to 8th grade before phone….this has bridged the gap pretty well.
