I think Collins was absolutely doing the right thing going after the two guys....don't think he ever expected to get both and would have been pleased with one or the other.

However, it will be difficult integrating one player into this tight-knit team, let alone two. And to bring in two who expect to have the opportunity to shoot and score at will might not have worked out so well.

Turner has been in college for three years and Taylor has been in college four, so there is a ton of experience added to the roster. Taylor was an elite scorer, albeit mid-con, and Turner was an effective scorer in a tough league.

One bonus to going after Mooney and not getting him is that it sent a message to all of the other guards that in the coach's mind, they aren't quite there yet and better can be had. That's some tough love for guys on scholly. Tells them there's work this summer. Not '17 summer work....more like '16 summer work.

The message to the frosh is simply we want to support you and bring you along.

If I'm Lathon or Kopp I'm delighted with today's news. Sure, it would have been good for the program to get him. But, I'm not scared of no ghosts, I want to play.

Last thing, I wonder if with the extra scholly if the staff is looking at a big man transfer who needs to sit a year.

I hope not, I want players that embrace competition. Competition breeds success

I hope Collins and Co. have a backup plan and don't leave the last scholarship spot unfilled. It would be nice to add someone to Anthony Gaines's class to balance it out just a little bit (that is, get a sophomore transfer who will be a "junior" in 2019-20 with Gaines).

I'd be happy with a big, like you suggest, or another PG who will have to sit a year but, at the very least, could slot in for the hole Ash will leave.

You shouldn't read into my post that they don't.

The glass half full view of my post is that the frosh want to be on the hot seat and think they are already the best option.

Short term, not getting Mooney will hurt. Long term, it could turn out good for the development of our younger players.

Is this a tight-knit team? I'm not saying it ain't, but I would be just as uncertain making the case that it is.

It would be nice to play a season w a full roster. Wonder what's in the bargain basement?
