Obi should go, zero minutes available. Did Obi graduate? If so, he can transfer without waiting.

It is on like Donkey Kong.

That will be a crowded back court next year.

I assume Obi will be "retiring" to make room.

I find it interesting in the article -- it appears that Grayson isn't even going to go any NBA camps. I thought that would be a good thing for him. What am I missing?

He completely loves Duke and knows that's where he wants to be. Honestly that's what it comes down to. I've said it many times he is a different type of player

So taking away Robinson's scholarship (has to be a given since his family obviously is fine financially) still puts us at 13 total.
So to bring in Bolden, someone either has to transfer, redshirt, retire or become a walk-on (this I doubt.)
I suppose the situation will play out as either DT transferring, Obi transferring or retiring, or Jack White/Delaurier/Vrank redshirting.

I'm guessing someone will transfer (most likely DT), but maybe an official announcement won't be made until after the banquet - which is on April 21st.

Grayson, my man!! I don't know guys, this group for next year seems "alarmingly unathletic", but if they had a decent Coach , their ceiling could be fairly high ;)?! Now I don't know much about BB, but it might be a good idea to keep the Fire Dept. close to Cameron on the nights that there are games played there, cause once again, "Here Comes Duke"!!! :)
Go Duke!!

I hope OBI stays and works. Made my day hearing the great news on Grayson.
We need to get Bolden.

With the limited minutes available next year White, Vrank, and DeLaurier all have to be considered for redshirts. I'd hate to think someone like DeLaurier even needs a RS Year, but if everyone is healthy and we do land Bolden, he'll be seeing Obi/Vrank-type minutes.

This is great news, I will have one happy 9 year old after he gets home from school and hears the news.

If Bolden comes to Duke the roster will be loaded, I could actually see playing 10 deep in games were Duke wins by 15-20 points. In a close game I could definitely see 8-9 max. Red shirt White because he will not be getting playing time anyways behind Tatum at the 3.

I thought redshirts were still counted against the scholarship limit. If so, someone else besides Robinson needs to leave / give up a scholarship if Bolden is going to get one.

No mention of DT...

Not sure how Laura can say that. Is the 9th guy off the bench going to play a lot in our biggest games? No, probably not. IMO, however, it's wildly premature to be presuming a tight 8 man rotation for most of the season (even when talking about K).

First, while K's traditionally limited the rotation to about 8 guys one we get late into the year, it's been quite a long time since he's had 9th or 10th men on the roster who are as good as the 9th and 10th men here (if ever). Back in the late 90s, K's most talented squads did play about 9 guys. While it would be a bit unusual in view of recent history, I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that the 9th guy, for instance, wouldn't at least get some minutes in certain situations.

Second
, if this team is as good as it should be, there are going to be a lot of blowouts. That alone will likely lead to playing time.

Third, Giles is coming off a major knee injury. While the expectation is that he'll be able to start on Day 1, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the team brings him back slowly and limits his minutes during the first half of next season. The Bucks, for instance, limited Jabari to about 20 or 25 minutes until February of this season. As good as Giles will likely be, I strongly doubt that he will be playing more than 25 or so minutes until the 2nd half of conference season.

Fourth, this conversation about the rotation presumes that we not only remain perfectly healthy throughout the season, but avoid any off the court issues as well. As we've seen in recent years, that's an extremely risk proposition. If you go back over the last few years, in 2010-11 we lost Kyrie for most of the season, in 2012-13 Ryan Kelly missed most of the ACC schedule and Seth Curry was never fully health, in 2014-15 Rasheed Sulaimon was dismissed, and in 2015-16 we obviously lost Amile. And that doesn't even mention what happened when Ryan Kelly was knocked out of the postseason in 11-12. While we'd ideally love to have everyone remain healthy from start to finish, reality is that we've been forced to replace key rotation players in 4 of our last 6 season. IMO, we should all be careful about predicting guys will be buried on the bench when we have no idea how guys will perform and how the season will play out -- particularly when one of the key figures will be a 18 yr. old freshman coming off two torn ACLs.

Am I wrong but even if someone redshirts they would still be counted against the limit?

And if Bolden were to come here either DT or Obi more than likely will be gone IMO

I like how Jeter was playing towards the end of the season. Getting Bolden would be great, but I'm confident in Jeter if we don't get him.

If Laura Keeley doesn't know where Duke will another scholarship for Bolden, she needs to get on the message boards occasionally. Apparently, everyone knows BUT her.

I think she is missing Jeter in that. I don't see why would wouldn't play 9 deep. Didn't we do that in 2010?
Jeter and Bolden would play, that makes 9, and with that size and talent I don't know why K wouldn't do that if Bolden committed

Redshirts count towards the scholarship limit. You don't pull someone's scholarship simply because they're not playing in games.

Effectively one of Thornton or obi is gone if Bolden were to commit; seeing as at least 5-6 players are leaving after this upcoming season this limit won't be as much of a problem for the 17 class!

Maybe going to school. If he wants to graduate in 3 years, he probably has to go to summer school.

This is the realest thing said all day. And this is exactly why I really really really want Bolden at Duke. Without Bolden, an injury to one our main bigs (just knocked on wood) would really kill our depth. For example, I am not comfortable with a big going down and Jeter being forced to play 30 min a game next year. I am also not comfortable with a big going down and Obi/Vrank being forced to play real minutes. Next year we are supposed to be the best, and the best should not have any major weakness.
With Bolden, an injury to one our bigs (knuckles starting to hurt from knocking) and we still have a comfortable 8-9 man rotation.

0% chance Grayson goes pro this year.

100% chance Ingram goes pro this year.

Those are both facts.
- March 28th

Going pro was never even on the table for Grayson until after he graduates.. Let's hope he decides to slack off in his classes next year and has to stay a 4th year ;)

Hey skysdad, your boy posted a great pic of our reaction to Grayson's news. Maybe you could post a pic/vid clip of the same actor when Russel Brand (Get him to the Greek) hid his drugs up his you know what to depict the Carolina reaction. Or better yet, when the groupie chick used a certain toy on him leading to his lament: "why does this keep happening to me?!"
