Afraid to many national talking heads on it, ACC may have to do something. Damn it Grayson. Pitt was gonna be tough enough

ACC reviewing it. We can't afford a guard suspension. Hope he learns something from this.

And I just watched the "evidence" it looks like one of those things taken WAY out of context lol you can't tell nothing from a 5 sec clip

I'd hate for Grayson to be suspended a game because we need him on the floor, but I'd totally understand the punishment. You can't have players tripping opponents *multiple times*. If it were a UNC player, I have a hard time believing you would think they shouldn't be reprimanded.

To me pigsah, it's the fact that he did it twice now and the notion that he created the elbow incident that is causing the reaction, at least from people who share the opinion I do that he needs some form of discipline. After the first one, I was willing to let it go, but this is a little much. I would have much rather seen Grayson give Rathan-Mayes a nice little point to the scoreboard or talked it out like grown men would rather than the sneaky, behind the back trip.

I'm certainly not asking for Grayson to fight anyone, but him tripping people isn't going to get the point across that he's getting beaten up I games constantly. I am of the opinion that one game wouldn't kill his career, would get the point across and actually might make those in influential position see that there is an issue going on with the Grayson bashing during games and maybe they stop some of the chippiness. If nothing is done, to the officials, I'm afraid it's going to look like the kid who got away with it.

I could be wrong, I'm not saying I'm perfect or hold anyone else to some perfect standard, but I do think he has to atone for this one. Had he turned around after the shoulder check and said something to Rathan-Mayes and walked off the court LIKE A WINNER, then this wouldn't even be a conversation and we'd be celebrating Chase Jeter's nice stretch of minutes.

Oh well.

You're just sounding like a huge homer now. The context is Duke was up 15 with like 5 seconds left in the game. Mayes had been talking a lot of crap to Grayson and they had been playing physical. Grayson retaliated and tripped him. You can see Grayson trip him. It doesn't matter what Mayes was saying or how physical he was playing - you don't retaliate.

Honestly, Justin Winslow had two different incidents that were just as egregious as either of Grayson's situations (Grabbing Justin Anderon's leg as he tried to run down that court and essentially kicking a UNC player). Should Allen have been called for something (within 5 seconds left in the game) -- sure. But, if Allen gets suspended, it will only be because of the firestorm the media will create on a slow sports weekened about a white Duke player. I see absolutely no reason that Grayson should be suspended for silly things that are no more egregious than what Winslow twice did last year -- particularly in a case where I think Grayson was partly provoked by the FSU player coming over and inexplicably getting physical with him as he was completely removed from a play where Matt was simply trying to run out the clock on the other side of the court.

Perception is what it is aah.

I work for the fire department, and if I scrape the decorative awning of the ambulance drive-through of a nursing home with an ambulance, I get the same punishment as if I cause a car accident. It doesn't make it right and the situations are vastly different, but those are the rules I signed up to play under. Grayson also accepts and plays under what rules are placed on him.

I know I know different scenrios but how can you suspend Grayson for tripping and didn't even look at the guy from Louisville for busting Grayson in the face?

his first offense got dealt with...he was T'ed up and deservedly so....this 2nd one, meh....it was retaliatory, but should not have been done....there shouldnt be a 3rd incident

The sneakiness of the trip is what bothers me. I don't mind some form of retaliation when a guy is giving you the business, even a nice shoulder bump or sarcastic comment would do. The trip is for cowards and commies. Grayson is better than that. I'd rather him throw the ol Hendo Elbow.

I wont complain about a 1 game suspension, cause if that wack job at Wake had done it, I'd be asking for the same.

The sneakiness then in his post game didn't man up to it. If he had said "yes I tripped him and I shouldn't have, I got caught up in the moment. I won't talk about all the incidents that happened up to that play that caused me to react poorly, but you have the game film", i would have really respected it. Instead he tried to sneak by it. I don't think it deserves a suspension and it doesn't change my high opinion of grayson, but i understand if there is a suspension (I do believe it should only be for a half though if at all).

Only if BOTH are. FSU kid instigated it with the lean followed by the pop to the back of Grayson's head. And just for the record...I still think Grayson was wrong. Circumstances DO matter though. The other game where Grayson tripped the kid? THAT shoulda earned a 1-game suspension. Last night doesn't merit one GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES. That was 2 players at the end of a physical game with some mutual trash-talking coupled with frustration on the part of the FSU player followed by Grayson's ill-conceived retaliation. And it can't be said enough. The ACC ignored that elbow. Just as a matter of consistency , there's no way ya penalize this. And again....if ya do ya gotta penalize BOTH.

I agree with that DJ. Further, if he just ignores the childish crap from guys like Mayes, he wins and Duke wins. That's the correct attitude going forward.

Regardless of the length of the video Grayson did trip the FSU player. That was the third incident in the last week in which he was involved (face slapping and tripping during the U of L game). You can be sure opposing coaches will work the refs during the tournaments to watch for his style of play. He may just do something similar that will cause an opposing team senior playing in his last game to deliver a message he won't forget. Whether that player is ejected or not ...it won't matter. Grayson's reputation proceeds him. There were two radio commentators today who stated there is a research effort to see if his high school play was characterized by similar type of aggressive plays.

How is it Duke has a list of players who have earned the title of dirty? I know of no other school having earned such a reputation. I have been a basketball fan for 55+ years.

What really surprises me is that Coach K has not apparently gotten his attention that those acts will not be tolerated.

By the way I am not a Kentucky fan.

If you look at the clip ESPN is showing, they are strategically showing just the second Grayson sticks his leg out. They purposefully leave off the shot to the head he took just before.

Which leads me to believe far too many people have far too much time on their hands.

He tripped a guy, he was reprimanded, I'm sure K will handle it. Move on.

But this should've been about BOTH players and it probably WOULD'VE had one particular media outlet not taken it upon themselves to turn this into a witch hunt over some relatively benign actions by 2 kids who ( I hope ) have made better decisions. And don't get me started on this anecdotal bs about Duke having "dirty" players. If the Devils didn't kick everyone's azz so often , no one would notice or care. And how many times does it have to be said before it gets thru to people? NOTHING is dirtier than 20+ years of intentional fraud and deceit in the service of winning dadgum ball games. How many players involved? Can we even count that high? What's a conservative estimate on the numbers who cheated ie "dirty" over 20+ years and 18 programs? 500? 1000? 2000? What? Wonder if the same people whining about this feel as strongly about "dirty" tactics that pervert and exploit the game itself? And speaking of "earning the title of being dirty..."

well, if the fsu kid wasnt trying to steal the ball w/ 5 sec. left down 15 points, this would not have happened.....and if mayes had decided not to try to be slick with the bump and head swipe as he ran off (again for what, down 15 and 5 sec to go), he wouldnt have gotten tripped......a series of events that led to grayson tripping mayes imo

Shot to the head or not, retaliation or not, there's no defending the play and the fact that it was the 2nd time he tripped someone - a suspension would not have been a bad move. Apparently the ACC is not going to do so but it's a problem when a kid does that.

No "series of events" "Led Grayson to trip" the kid. Grayson made a decision in which he lost control. If it was the first time, it's one thing. The second time here is the problem. There's no defense of that - it was a bad play and gives him a bad reputation unfortunately. I appreciate the fact that K called and apologized to the kid and FSU's coach. That in itself says something from K's perspective about the inexcusable nature of the play and argues against the homerism defenses here.

i disagree w/ you young....imo it is a series of events....if the no steal attempt w/ 5 sec left, prob would not have happened....if mayes bodying him for no reason w/ 5 sec left, prob would not have happened....if mayes didn't attempt the sneaky I'm running down court and I am going to take as a swipe at your head, this prob doesn't happen imo.......the more I look at the full sequence, the more I feel that mayes got a dose of his own medicine....2x doesnt denote a problem imo....louisville game he was 1,000,000% wrong......this time around i see it as retaliation from a swipe at his head
