Does anyone have a clue how long it would take for Grayson's toe to fully heal? With Tatum back and already playing well, Bolden back and working his way in, and Giles on the way soon, would it make sense to sit Grayson and try to get him fully healed? Not suggesting K do this, but just speculating. If it was your decision to make, what would be the longest period of time you would sit Grayson to try to get him back at full strength? Keep in mind that the next "big" game is 3 1/2 weeks away against VA Tech (Hope I am not completely underestimating UNLV). And, if we can't beat Va Tech without Grayson, but with Tatum, Bolden, and Giles back, we are not the team any of us thinks we are. So, right there, you are looking at 4 weeks-don't know how much later the next game is, or who against. I could see myself sitting him for 4 weeks, but would that really help? Honestly don't know. If it would, I almost think it would be a no brainer to sit him. Curious what different people would come up with.

That would probably best for Grayson if a few games would help. It may be one of those situations that to be fully healed it may take several months but it may not make the situation worse if that makes any sense. Also what would it do to Grayson's mind set to be sitting. I know it was just for one game but the game he did sit he had the worst scoring game he's had over the last two seasons. Frank didn't have the best game either. I'm just gonna let Coach K and staff figure it out. OFC

Sky I agree, sitting would probably drive Grayson nuts. I love the way he puts it all on the line for the team. And, I am definitely not trying to second guess his willingness to play or K's decision to play him. My question, I suppose, is more academic being that we, of course, don't have a say in the matter.

From everything I've heard about turf toe, it seems like it's one of those injuries that can be hard to judge how long it could take to heal. Kyrie Irving for example, when he got turf toe while he was at Duke he was out until post season play started. Grayson's turf toe possibly isn't as severe as Kyrie's was since he's been playing through the pain.

Toe injuries take time. I know when I broke my toe, it took about 6-8 weeks before I felt 100%. Waking on it was fine but certain ways I'd put pressure on it made me want to saw my leg off. I think he should sit as much as possible. Don't chance it because we're gonna need him come April.

Coach K said that it's on the side of his toe which is why he's able to play but that it can still be painful especially if he lands on it wrong.

After UNLV, I would rest Grayson until the first conference matchup with Virginia Tech on New Years Eve. That will give Grayson a good three weeks of rest. Duke will be fine without Grayson against Tennessee State and Elon.

Pretty sure we would be just fine against UNLV, too. The Rebels aren't anywhere near their typical standards. Looking at two different RPI rankings, UNLV is actually ranked very, very low. Tennessee State won on the road against Middle Tennessee State, a team which is ranked 5th in the RPI. I know it's early in the season and sample size is so small that RPI rankings mean very little, but Tennessee State is a far superior team to UNLV.

Tennessee State (68/62)
Elon (129/127)
UNLV (211/252)

I think Grayson will play on Saturday, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get some rest over the holidays. Good luck keeping him out of the lineup for an ACC game.

This.

K has been running these one and done squads like NBA teams in terms of rest, practice and off court stuff. He used to run his squads almost in a paramilitary fashion. Now it's more like "prepare for the job you want".
