I was watching the Open Championship today and mom asked where they were playing. I said Scotland and she asked why they were playing the British Open in Scotland. That's when I explained that England and Great Britain aren't the same thing.

What are some other facts that a lot of people don't know?

FACT: The Rolling Stones, The Clash, and Monty Don are the only things worth a wet fart to ever come out of England. The veneration of that bland, ugly country is as ridiculous as people who find the accent sexy.

<--------- Team France.

People in Iceland have French and English Ancestry because Viking raiders took women from there after raiding those lands.

I had a lot of good beer in England, but the food was shockingly bland other than the curry houses. It's amazing how little flavor almost everything had.

The food was better in France, but Paris was dirtier than Cleveland (seriously, it was just filthy) and I find French culture kind of obnoxious in general. I wouldn't mind hitting the southern riviera, but have no desire to go to the Cleveland of France again.

The Czech Republic and Italy - that's where it's at. I even prefer Hungary to France.

Yes...great Britain is the island, the UK is the island plus northern Ireland.

As far as North America...most Americans consider it Canada, US, Mexico. Other parts of the world refer that as Northern America, as North America is also central America, the Caribbean. But sometimes they consider Mexico as part of Central America.

I think some English girls are hot.

Btw, it's almost as if they deliberately try to come up with the worst names for food imaginable.
Blood Pudding, speckled dick, toads in a hole. Uggh

"Genetic evidence shows that most DNA lineages found among Icelanders today can be traced to the settlement of Iceland, indicating that there has been relatively little immigration since. This evidence shows that the founder population of Iceland came from Ireland, Scotland, and Scandinavia: studies of mitochondrial DNA and Y-chromosomes indicate that 62% of Icelanders' matrilineal ancestry derives from Scotland and Ireland (with most of the rest being from Scandinavia), while 75% of their patrilineal ancestry derives from Scandinavia (with most of the rest being from the Irish and British Isles).[30]"

I guess even more Scottish and Irish than English and French.

People in Iceland have French and English Ancestry because Viking raiders took women from there after raiding those lands.
There are also small pieces of Native American DNA there, apparently from NAm east coast visits & bringing back a few women from there. Probably weren't more than 100K people in Iceland then so just a few could leave traces.

Though I have no known Scandia ancestors, I do have a good amount of northern English & Scots ancestry. I presume that's how my DNA test shows ~7% Norse ancestry.
