Good read, thanks Lou. Glad to see Doyle survive the cockiness of his youth. Some people never figure it out *cough* but glad he did.

met him a couple of times while he was sitting out his transfer year. After we talked about the differences of the campus between St. John's and NU, he asked me how he could get to Wrigley Field. Although a Mets fan, he said that he always wanted to see Wrigley. He seemed pleasant and think he was the Pat Spencer of his era.

A great story well told by Teddy G. Give it a read.

Tim Doyle: A sports broadcaster's life in 3 chapters
He was a really nice guy who certainly cracked his fair share of jokes. Gill must be pretty thin-skinned to turn to violence over a TV wisecrack.

I’m glad he’s made the most of his second TV chance and that his son is alright following those surgeries. Abraham Lincoln supposedly had Marfan Syndrome.

TD was one of my favorite Wcat bball players. I had season tickets for all his home games. Heard he had trouble getting out of bed for 11am Sat games?? He really should have started his playing career at NU instead of StJohns. I think he fits the mold of a NU scholar-athlete really perfectly. Really smart and cutting edge insights. I anticipate TD will do very well wherever he works. Sounds like he's a really great father too. I'd like to have a beer with him some day. From all I've heard he's a real character.

I mean, it seems pretty clear that Doyle crossed a line if Gill referenced it in his text to Teddy and Doyle was ashamed to repeat it after all these years. No need to take a swipe at KG. The important thing is that Doyle has grown as a person and evolved into a better husband, father, friend and analyst. Let's focus on that.

That’s not how I read it. Although I admit that I would be shocked that TD would say something to deserve getting punched in the face.

If KG manned up and said he lost his cool but explained - even via text - then I’d give him more credit. Until then I think he’s just another thin-skinned hothead who reverts to violence due to a lack of maturity and / or coping skills. Just walk.

I don’t know...Doyle himself called it embarrassing and didn’t want to discuss what he said preceding the punch. His arrogance was legendary in those days. But it seems like some life events have really helped him put his own life into better perspective.

Really? The entire article point of the article was about how he used to be the kind of arrogant guy who people wanted to punch in the face, how it ruined his career when it caught up to him, and how he’s grown from it.

Notice that there were not any nice things said about Gill. He should have been charged with assault.

Tim Doyle: A sports broadcaster's life in 3 chapters

A side story which I hope is okay to share.

Did some work with the football team a while back. My first meeting was with the entire staff (around 10+ years ago). Coach walks into the room, and proceeds to spend a significant amount of time furious about an article he just read in the paper, written about the top-10 failures in Northwestern sports history, written by non-other than Timmy D. Never seen him that pissed, ever, at anyone, ever.

Further context - this was when we were discussing program identity, prior to the Chicago's Big Ten Team campaign.
