Great win, but things to clean up

Gritty win against a pretty tough veteran team. Great win for the Cats!

It’s possible for cats to make a deep run, but have some things to clean up. Lost too many 50/50 balls and defensive rebounds to a relatively small team. Berry scored some points, but too many mistakes and ticky-tack fouls and is weakest defender. If his shot is flat gotta get him out of game fast! Barney brings size, energy, and defense and should be playing more minutes for Berry.
Go Cats!

BSU scheme and style not something we are accustomed to. The perimeter defense spacing required affected our defensive rebounding. Boise knew how to position themselves for many shots. I thought we played well.

In the game of basketball their is never a credible excuse for giving up 20 offensive rebounds and a bundle of 2nd & 3rd chance points.

Still … any NU win in the Big Dance is a great win. On to the Bad Hair Boys and their chippy little chihuahua coach.

We were abused on the glass & they hit a maddening number of shots with the shot clock expiring after a really good defensive possession by the Cats. And some ehhh foul calls by the zebras. I think we played better than the final score indicates, but definitely some needed improvements to work toward if we want any shot at UCLA.

There were more than a few…see the ball…go frigging get the rebound and we were out hustled.

But this was my first game in person this year and omg the bald ref should immediately retire. Beran was called for at least one “air” foul as the in arena replay clearly showed ZERO contact.

And the last foul on big Matt was as grade school a call as they come. Actually, in grade school that wouldn’t have been a foul.

Getting owned on the boards was bad. I think they learned their lesson about defending through the entire shot clock. Seemed like Half of Boise points came with < 3 secs on shot clock. Got better late when they got tired and started clanging their shots

I loved the call on Beran when the BSU player knocked Beran into the guy he was guarding and red called the contact foul on Beran. We should run that push the defender into the ball handler too!

We had a lot blocked out inside but the balls went just a little long and suddenly they were O rebounds. Seemed to go that way all night.

Honestly after watching a couple other games where fundamentals so poor, it was a pleasure to watch where both teams pretty competent
